Klein JoliMansworth JoliMember of “Maccabi Hatzair”Joli was a member of “Maccabi Hatzair” in Pozsony (Bratislava). After thedeportation of Jews in March 1942, she fled to Hungary. Thanks to hercommand of Hungarian, Joli engaged in helping the refugees arriving toHungary from Slovakia. She obtained suitable documents and foundaccommodation for them. After the German invasion of Hungary on19.3.1944, Joli joined the underground activities. She obtained authenticdocuments from the Population Registry offices. She escorted groupswithin the framework of the tiyul to the Romanian border. After15.10.1944, when the fascist Arrow Cross Party rose to power, sheengaged in looking for Jewish children and taking them to children’shouses which were under the protection of the International Red Cross.Joli herself was appointed to the staff of carers in those children’shouses. After the war she made aliya. Joli resides in Nahariya.Klein Menahem ‘Meno’Klein ElemérBorn in Szakolca (Skalica) on 18.1.1917Perished in Auschwitz in 1944Member of “Maccabi Hatzair”In 1943 and 1944 Menahem obtained documents. He made contact witha printing house whose owner was willing to print documents for use bythe underground members. In June 1944 Menahem was caught,interrogated, tortured and deported to Auschwitz.Klein Moshe ‘Koshe’Klein GyörgyBorn in Apagy on 15.1.1926Died on 23.1.1987 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”At the age of seventeen Moshe moved to Budapest and was active in themovement. After the Arrow Cross Party rose to power on 15.10.1944, hestayed at the “Glass House” on 29, Vadász Street. Moshe distributedforged documents to Jews while donning the fascist Arrow Cross uniform.He was caught by Arrow Cross men but managed to rescue himself. Hewas arrested once more by the Gestapo but again he succeeded inescaping with his friends’ help. After the liberation Moshe was the leaderof an agricultural hahshara. In 1947 he was on his way to Eretz Israel<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 151
