Löwenheim ShmuelLöwenheim SándorBorn in Budapest on 11.9.1926Died on 9.6.2008 in IsraelMember of “Hanoar Hatzioni”From 1943 Shmuel gave assistance to refugees from Poland andSlovakia by finding them accommodation and hiding places, obtainingfood for them and maintaining contact with them. He also smuggled Jewsacross the Hungarian border. During this period of time he operatedunder the name of Klement Zoltán.After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, he volunteered to thefiremen and, wearing the uniform, he was free to walk around the capital.Shmuel distributed forged documents and, in order to do so, he traveledto country towns. He brought some youngsters back with him toBudapest and arranged accommodation for them in his parents’ houseand other places.Shmuel traveled to forced labor camps carrying forged documents,helped those who wanted to escape arrive in Budapest and gave themaccommodation and hiding places.After the Arrow Cross came to power on 15.10.1944, he liberated youngmen from the forced labor units that passed through the capital on theirway to the east. Shmuel’s underground activities are mentioned in thefollowing books: “We are Witnesses”, “In the Shadow of Death” and“Shmulik, the Anonymous”. Samuel operated with Mordehai Ben <strong>David</strong>distributing food to the bunkers and children’s houses.He is a member of Kibbutz Nitzanim.Lung <strong>David</strong>Lung DezsőBorn in Miskolc on 21.9.1921Killed in battle in 1944Member of “Beitar”<strong>David</strong> was active in his movement in Miskolc from an early age. He hadmany talents and was a central figure in his ken of the movement. In1942 <strong>David</strong> was enlisted in a forced labor unit. In October 1944 hedeserted and joined the military unit Kiska under the name of LukácsDezsø. Wearing a fascist Arrow Cross armband, he engaged with hisfriends in resistance and rescue operations such as attacks on Arrow<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 170
