Sadeh ShlomoSzabó TamásBorn in Budapest on 21.6.1924Died on 19.11.2003 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”Shlomo was a member first of “Dror Habonim” and later of “MaccabiHatzair”. He was enlisted in a forced labor unit, deserted with othermembers of the movement and arrived in the bunker in Hüvösvölgy. Atthe beginning of December 1944 the bunker was discovered by thefascists and all the dwellers were transferred to the military prison onMargit Boulevard. Shlomo was liberated by a daring operation of theZionist underground on 25.12.1944 and arrived in Wekerle Street. Afterthe liberation he was among the founders of the “Ehad BeMay” garin. InOctober 1948, Shlomo made aliya and joined Kibbutz Yassur. In 1950 heleft the kibbutz. He was an English teacher.Sagi Eliyahu ‘Eli’Schwartz LászlóBorn in Budapest in 1924Died on 18.5.1984 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”Eliyahu joined “Hashomer Hatzair” in 1939. In 1942 he graduated fromthe Jewish high school in the capital. At this time he earned a living as aworker and a private teacher of Jewish children. Within the framework ofthe movement he helped refugees from Slovakia find a shelter inBudapest. After the Germans invaded Hungary on 19.3.1944, Eliyahuwas enlisted in a forced labor unit but, after the fascist Arrow Cross Partyrose to power on 15.10.1944, he ran away from the service with a groupof friends and joined his movement’s underground activities. Eliyahumainly distributed Swiss Protection Documents. He enlisted in aHungarian armored military unit, “Hunyadi László”, which served withinthe framework of the SS, so that, when necessary, he would be able tohelp his comrades as a Hungarian soldier. During the registration to theunit he managed to avoid the physical check up but eight of his comradeswere discovered as Jews and shot on the spot.Eliyahu was a member of Kibbutz Ga’aton.
