Weil ShragaWeil Ferenc FerdinándBorn in Nyitra (Nitra) on 24.9.1919Died on 21.2.2009 in IsraelMember of “Hashomer Hatzair”The family moved to Bratislava and Shraga joined the movement in 1931.He studied at an art school in Prague. In 1941 he married Sarah Taub.Shraga worked as a building draftsman. When the deportations fromSlovakia started in 1942, the couple moved to Budapest. They werecaught by the Hungarian police and imprisoned for about a year. After theGerman invasion of Hungary on 19.3.1944, Shraga engaged in forgingdocuments with Dan Zimmerman and <strong>David</strong> <strong>Gur</strong>. He returned to Slovakiawith Sarah and, in 1945, they were liberated by the Red Army.Shraga returned to Hungary and integrated the movement’s activities,mainly with the mission of helping young Jews to make aliya.In 1947 Shraga and Sarah made aliya. Shraga is a member of KibbutzHa’ogen. He is a painter, a multi-faceted artist and one of the outstandingartists in Israel.Weiner MagdalenaApor Magda (weife of Weiner Zoltán)Born on 10.6.1910 in MiskolcDied on 6.10.1998 in BudapestMember of the “Gordon Group”In the years 1942 and 1943 Magdalena and her husband, Zoltán Weiner,assisted refugees, members of “Hashomer Hatzair”, who arrived inHungary from Slovakia.In 1944 she was in contact with underground activists of the movement,Rafi Friedl-Benshalom, Ephra Teichman-Agmon, Moshe Pil-Alpan,Yehuda Weisz and Yitzhak Herbst-Mimish. Meetings with members of theDemény Group which belonged to the communist underground were heldin her house. After 15.10.1944, when the Arrow Cross Party rose topower, Magda distributed Protection Documents. She escorted Jewishchildren to the children’s houses that served as shelters. Magda wascaught with a bagful of forged documents and taken to the Arrow Crossheadquarters on Szent István Boulevard. Luckily for her, the bag was notinspected and she was released.After her husband’s death, Magda remarried and adopted the name Apor.<strong>Brothers</strong> for <strong>Resistance</strong> and <strong>Rescue</strong> 245
