Stamping:<br />
1. Repairs <strong>and</strong> alterations: As required by the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>and</strong> New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC 12:90).<br />
2. New construction: ASME Code <strong>and</strong> New Jersey Administrative Code or equivalent code accepted by <strong>The</strong> <strong>National</strong><br />
<strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessel Inspectors.<br />
ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />
All boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels, except the following:<br />
1. Those under federal inspection <strong>and</strong> control.<br />
2. Steam or hot-water boilers having less than 10 square feet <strong>of</strong> heating surface.<br />
3. Steam or hot-water boilers having a heat input <strong>of</strong> less than 10 kW or 40,000 BTU per hour.<br />
4. Steam boilers when constructed for a pressure not exceeding:<br />
a. 15 psi steam when serving dwellings <strong>of</strong> fewer than six family units or accommodation <strong>of</strong> less than 25 persons;<br />
b. 160 psi <strong>and</strong> 250°F hot water when serving dwellings <strong>of</strong> fewer than six family units or accommodating less than<br />
25 persons.<br />
5. Unfired pressure vessels in which steam is not generated may be exempted from shop inspections by qualified inspectors<br />
provided they comply with ASME Code construction, are <strong>of</strong> simple single-wall construction, <strong>and</strong> are stamped with<br />
the ASME “UM” Code symbol, or a stamp specified by the bureau:<br />
a. 5 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 250 psi design pressure;<br />
b. 1-1/2 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 600 psi design pressure.<br />
6. Those having a nominal capacity <strong>of</strong> 120 gallons or less, used for containing water under pressure, including those containing<br />
air, the compression <strong>of</strong> which serves only as a cushion.<br />
7. Those serving as a hot-water storage tank, heated by steam or any other indirect means, when none <strong>of</strong> the following<br />
limitations is exceeded:<br />
a. A heat input <strong>of</strong> 200,000 BTU per hour;<br />
b. A water temperature <strong>of</strong> 200°F;<br />
c. A nominal water-containing capacity <strong>of</strong> 120 gallons.<br />
8. Those having an internal or external operating pressure not exceeding 15 psi, with no limitation on size.<br />
9. Those having an inside diameter <strong>of</strong> 6 inches or less, with no limitation on pressure.<br />
ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr FIelD InSpeCtIOn<br />
Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING, except:<br />
1. Refrigeration systems using flammable or toxic refrigerants with 3 tons refrigerating capacity or less requiring 6 driving<br />
hp or less.<br />
a. Flammables are those classified in ASHRAE 34 as A2, B2, A3, or B3.<br />
b. Toxic refrigerants are those classified in ASHRAE 34 as B1, B2, or B3.<br />
c. Nonflammables are those classified in ASHRAE 34 as A1 or B1.<br />
d. Nontoxic are those classified in ASHRAE 34 as A1, A2, or A3.<br />
2. Refrigeration systems using nonflammable <strong>and</strong> nontoxic refrigerant with 18 tons refrigerating capacity or less or requiring<br />
36 driving hp or less, operating at a pressure <strong>of</strong> 15 psig or less.<br />
3. Excluded from inspection is equipment used solely for the propulsion <strong>of</strong> motor vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act,<br />
Title 39.<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s:<br />
a. An annual internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection for steam boilers;<br />
b. An annual external inspection <strong>and</strong> biennial internal inspection for hot-water boilers.<br />
