8. Pressure vessels:<br />

a. Initial inspection shall be an external safety inspection;<br />

b. One triennial certificate inspection, one internal where construction permits.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are accepted<br />

in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector.<br />

2. Reports <strong>of</strong> certificate inspections must be filed with the department within 30 days after inspection. Reports <strong>of</strong> external<br />

inspections, other than certificate inspections or reports <strong>of</strong> accidents, shall be filed when any defect is found affecting<br />

safety <strong>of</strong> the boiler.<br />

3. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified within 10 days <strong>of</strong> refusal <strong>of</strong> or suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions<br />

on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> new business <strong>and</strong> discontinuance <strong>of</strong> insurance on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

A Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection is issued by the department upon payment, by the owner/user, <strong>of</strong> a $80.00 fee for each boiler or pressure<br />

vessel. Initial inspection <strong>of</strong> new or relocated power boilers must be completed by the jurisdiction. Plans must be submitted<br />

<strong>and</strong> approved by the jurisdiction.<br />

State FeeS<br />

1. Internal inspections for high-pressure power boilers <strong>and</strong> high-pressure, high-temperature water boilers:<br />

a. <strong>Boiler</strong>s less than 2,000 square feet <strong>of</strong> heating surface ..................................................................................................... $75.00<br />

b. <strong>Boiler</strong>s 2,000 square feet but less than 4,000 square feet heating surface ...............................................................$100.00<br />

c. <strong>Boiler</strong>s 4,000 square feet but less than 10,000 square feet heating surface .............................................................$150.00<br />

d. <strong>Boiler</strong>s 10,000 square feet or more heating surface ......................................................................................................$300.00<br />

2. External inspections for high-pressure power boilers <strong>and</strong> high-pressure, high-temperature water boilers:<br />

a. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>of</strong> 50 square feet or less heating surface .............................................................................................................. $50.00<br />

b. <strong>Boiler</strong>s over 50 square feet heating surface .....................................................................................................................$100.00<br />

For boilers where the only source <strong>of</strong> heat is electrical energy, the fees shall be based on one kilowatt being equal to one square<br />

foot <strong>of</strong> heating surface.<br />

3. All classes <strong>of</strong> low-pressure boilers ................................................................................................................................................ $50.00<br />

4. Pressure vessels:<br />

a. Internal or external <strong>of</strong> vessel having a cross-sectional area <strong>of</strong> 50 square feet or less .............................................$25.00<br />

b. For each 100 square feet <strong>of</strong> area in excess <strong>of</strong> 50 square feet ....................................................................................... $25.00<br />

5. Inspection Fees: Special trip or inspection by state-employed inspectors will be based on $50.00 per hour, at a minimum<br />

<strong>of</strong> four hours plus travel, lodging, <strong>and</strong> meals.<br />

mISCellaneOUS<br />

1. Weld repairs must be made by a company utilizing a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Quality Control program. Routine repairs as defined<br />

in the NBIC are not valid. Special rules apply.<br />

2. All safety valve <strong>and</strong> safety relief valve repairs shall be conducted under the supervision <strong>of</strong> an organization in possession<br />

<strong>of</strong> an ASME “V” or “UV” Certificate <strong>of</strong> Authorization or a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> “VR” Certificate <strong>of</strong> Authorization. Adjustments to<br />

safety or safety relief set pressure or blowdown shall be performed under the supervision <strong>of</strong> an organization in possession<br />

<strong>of</strong> a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Authorization.<br />

3. Examinations for a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Authority as an authorized inspector <strong>of</strong> steam boilers are held by the chief inspector on<br />

the same schedule as the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> examinations.<br />
