b. Every time such an authorized person is called upon to inspect a vessel, he/she shall, in conformity with the regulations,
complete a detailed report and file a copy with the department (which may recommend repair or alteration
of the vessel whenever necessary);
c. When the vessel is judged acceptable, a Certificate of Inspection is issued to its user.
InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS
Periodic inspections by insurance company inspectors are accepted by the department.
CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn
1. Insured objects are certified by the insurance company responsible for the inspection. Uninsured objects are certified
by the department.
2. Validity of the periodic inspection certificate varies in accordance with the required frequency of periodic inspection.
prOVInCIal FeeS
1. Fees for registration and inspection, except for inservice inspection, are based on an hourly rate of $144.00 CAD. for
the first hour and $69.00 per additional half hour. A $67.00 flat fee for traveling cost associated with inspection services.
2. Fees for inservice inspection vary according to the type of vessel and its dimensions.
3. Fees for the review of a quality control manual and the verification of its implementation are also based on an hourly
rate of $144.00 CAD. for the first hour and $69.00 per additional half hour.
The regulation contains a provision for automatic indexation of fees on April 1 of each year.
mISCellaneOUS
1. Repairs or alterations on any boiler or pressure vessel must be completed by authorized organizations or, alternatively,
submitted to the department for approval.
2. All welders and welding procedures used on boilers and pressure vessels must be qualified in accordance with Section
IX of the ASME Code. Qualification tests must be witnessed by the department.
3. Operation of power plants, heating plants, and refrigeration plants must be done by licensed operators. Type of attendance
required by operators depends on plant kilowatt capacity.
4. Permits are required for installation of any boiler or pressure vessel before it is put into operation.
