Construction:<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels must be manufactured, constructed, <strong>and</strong> assembled in accordance with the appropriate<br />

ASME Code or equivalent st<strong>and</strong>ard recognized by <strong>The</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessel Inspectors, in place<br />

at the time <strong>of</strong> manufacture. Also CSA (CRN) <strong>and</strong> European community for st<strong>and</strong>ardization - with limitations.<br />

2. Manufacturers must file copy <strong>of</strong> Manufacturer’s Data Report with department on ASME forms before installation <strong>of</strong><br />

power boilers <strong>and</strong> unfired pressure vessels. Such forms must be filed before boiler is brought into state.<br />

3. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (2004 Edition).<br />

4. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> registration required for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />

5. Special design or construction requires approval by the department commissioner or designee.<br />

Stamping:<br />

Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />

1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: R, VR.<br />

2. ASME Code: A, E, H, HLW, HV, M, PP, S, U, U2, UM, UV, V.<br />

All boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels shall be stamped with a Vermont serial number followed by the letters “VT”.<br />

All boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels, except the following:<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s or pressure vessels located on common carriers subject to Surface Transportation <strong>Board</strong>, US Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Transportation, Federal Railroad Administration, or Nuclear Regulatory Commission.<br />

2. Pressure containers that are integral parts or components <strong>of</strong> rotating or reciprocating mechanical devices (i.e., pumps,<br />

compressors, turbines, generators, engines, hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, etc.) where the primary design consideration<br />

<strong>and</strong>/or stress is derived from the functional requirements <strong>of</strong> the device.<br />

3. Steam cleaners: Coil-type boilers without any steam space where water flashes into steam when manually released<br />

through a nozzle for cleaning machinery, equipment, etc., <strong>and</strong> not exceeding:<br />

a. Water capacity <strong>of</strong> 6 gallons;<br />

b. Water temperature <strong>of</strong> 350°F (where no steam is generated in the coil).<br />
