2. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels located on farms <strong>and</strong> used solely for agricultural purposes.<br />

3. Heating boilers which are located in private residences or in apartment houses <strong>of</strong> fewer than six family units.<br />

4. Hot-water supply boilers, not exceeding the following:<br />

a. 200,000 BTU per hour input;<br />

b. 160 psig;<br />

c. 250°F.<br />

5. Portable steam cleaners <strong>of</strong> the type commonly used in garages.<br />

6. Miniature hobby boilers not exceeding an inside diameter <strong>of</strong> 10 inches <strong>and</strong> a grate area not exceeding 1-1/2 square feet<br />

(properly equipped with a safety valve, water level indicator, <strong>and</strong> pressure gage).<br />

7. Electric boilers used as an integral part <strong>of</strong> an espresso c<strong>of</strong>fee machine, provided the boiler does not exceed:<br />

a. 1-1/2 cubic feet in water capacity;<br />

b. 50 psi pressure.<br />

8. All pressure vessels within the scope <strong>of</strong> ASME Code (2010 Edition), Section VIII, Divisions 1, 2, 3, with these exceptions:<br />

a. Pressure vessels under federal control;<br />

b. Pressure vessels that do not exceed:<br />

i. 30 water gallons in volume (4 cubic feet) <strong>and</strong> 250 psig in pressure;<br />

ii. 1-1/2 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 600 psig in pressure;<br />

iii. Inside diameter <strong>of</strong> 6 inches with no limitation on pressure.<br />

Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING. Field inspection <strong>of</strong> pressure vessels (other than<br />

anhydrous ammonia pressure vessels) is not required.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. Inspections made by inspectors employed by <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> approved Authorized Inspection Agencies <strong>and</strong> commissioned<br />

by the department are accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector with respect to boilers<br />

insured or inspected by their respective companies.<br />

2. Inspections made by inspectors employed by owners/users <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong><br />

inspections made by a department inspector.<br />

3. Reports <strong>of</strong> all inspections must be filed with the department on special state forms within 15 days after inspection.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified within 30 days <strong>of</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions, discontinuance<br />

or refusal <strong>of</strong> insurance, <strong>and</strong> new business.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong>re is a $20.00 per year fee for each Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection issued. Payment <strong>of</strong> this fee is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the<br />

owner/user.<br />

6. Insurance companies are required to inspect those objects they insure. If an inspection report is not filed within 90 days<br />

<strong>of</strong> the certificate due date, the state may make the inspection <strong>and</strong> must bill the insuring company an inspection fee not<br />

to exceed $500.00 per day plus expenses.<br />

7. <strong>The</strong> State <strong>of</strong> North Dakota will make all initial inspections.<br />
