2. Hot-water heating boilers which are located in private residences or apartment houses <strong>of</strong> fewer than six family units,<br />

provided the boiler heat input does not exceed 400,000 BTU per hour.<br />

3. Hot-water boilers <strong>and</strong> hot-water heaters operated at pressures not exceeding 160 psig – or temperatures not exceeding<br />

250°F – located in private residences or in apartment houses <strong>of</strong> fewer than six family units, provided the boiler or<br />

hot-water heater is not in a place <strong>of</strong> public assembly.<br />

4. Pressure vessels on remote oil or gas producing lease locations that have fewer than ten buildings intended for human<br />

occupancy per .25 square mile <strong>and</strong> where the closest building is at least 220 yards from any vessel.<br />

5. Pressure vessels not exceeding:<br />

a. 5 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 250 psig in pressure;<br />

b. 1-1/2 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 600 psig in pressure.<br />

6. Air tanks at gas or service stations used to inflate tires on automobiles or other vehicles.<br />

Low-pressure hot-water boilers shall be given an internal inspection at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the inspector.<br />

Vessels not subject to internal corrosion shall be inspected externally.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies or approved owner/user inspection agencies <strong>and</strong><br />

commissioned by the department are accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector.<br />

2. Reports <strong>of</strong> required internal or external inspections must be filed with the department on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms within<br />

21 days after inspection.<br />

3. Reports <strong>of</strong> external inspections on power boilers are not required unless there are code violations or dangerous conditions.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> boilers or pressure vessels on which insurance is written, canceled, not renewed, or<br />

suspended <strong>and</strong> the reasons there<strong>of</strong>.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified immediately on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms <strong>of</strong> all boilers suspended, canceled, or refused due<br />

to existing dangerous conditions.<br />

6. Any person, firm, partnership, or corporation operating pressure vessels in the state may seek approval <strong>and</strong> registration<br />

as an owner/user inspection agency. An application must be filed with the Division <strong>of</strong> Occupational Safety on prescribed<br />

forms. An application fee <strong>of</strong> $50.00 <strong>and</strong> bond in the penal sum <strong>of</strong> $25,000.00 is required. <strong>The</strong> bond must remain valid<br />

during the period the owner/user inspection agency is in effect.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

A Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection is issued by the department, upon payment directly to the department, <strong>of</strong> an annual $50.00 fee for<br />

boilers <strong>and</strong> an annual $25.00 fee for pressure vessels. Fees apply to owners/users <strong>of</strong> all boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels inspected by<br />

both insurance company inspectors <strong>and</strong> approved owner/user inspection agencies.<br />
