rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

Construction:<br />

1. CSA B51 (2003 Edition), B52 (2005 Edition).<br />

2. ASME Code (2004 Edition, Current Addendum), Sections I, II, IV, V, VIII (Divisions 1, 2, <strong>and</strong> 3), IX, X.<br />

3. Code cases <strong>and</strong> interpretations normally but not automatically accepted.<br />

4. ANSI B31.1 (2004 Edition), B31.3 (2004 Edition), K61.1 (1999 Edition).<br />

5. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (2004).<br />

6. Manufacturers must file copy <strong>of</strong> Manufacturer’s Data Report. Forms are supplied by the Authority upon request.<br />

7. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> registration required for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels brought in from outside Canada.<br />

8. Liquified petroleum gas containers must conform to ASME, CAN/CSA-B 149.2-00, <strong>and</strong> NFPA St<strong>and</strong>ard No. 58.<br />

9. Anhydrous ammonia storage tanks for use with NH3 (as a liquid fertilizer) shall be designed, constructed, <strong>and</strong> used in<br />

accordance with CSA B51 code <strong>and</strong> American <strong>National</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ards Institute, Inc. st<strong>and</strong>ard ANSI K-61.1-1999/CGA G-2.1<br />

Safety Requirements for the Storage <strong>and</strong> H<strong>and</strong>ling <strong>of</strong> Anhydrous Ammonia.<br />

10. Manufacturers must pay the required fee <strong>and</strong> submit designs <strong>and</strong> specifications (in duplicate) to the Authority for approval<br />

<strong>and</strong> registration before commencing fabrication <strong>of</strong> any boiler or pressure vessel for installation in the province.<br />

Stamping:<br />

Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />

1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: R (accepted).<br />

2. ASME Code: all.<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> unfired pressure vessels built to CSA/ASME st<strong>and</strong>ards in Canada must be shop-inspected <strong>and</strong> stamped by an inspector (employed<br />

by the Authority <strong>of</strong> the province in which the vessel is built).<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels built to CSA/ASME st<strong>and</strong>ards in the US must be shop-inspected by an inspector holding a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong><br />

Commission <strong>and</strong> employed by an ASME Code state or a boiler insurance company.<br />

Appropriate CRN stamps are required.<br />
