Construction:<br />
1. ASME Code (Current). (Sections I, III, IV, VIII, Div. 1,2,3, X, XII).<br />
2. Code addenda <strong>and</strong> case interpretations when accepted by the chief inspector.<br />
3. St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> construction approved by the chief inspector <strong>and</strong> meeting the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> criteria for registration <strong>of</strong><br />
boilers, pressure vessels <strong>and</strong> other pressure-retaining items.<br />
4. PVHO-1 (Current).<br />

5. Manufacturer’s Data Reports for new st<strong>and</strong>ard boilers <strong>and</strong> unfired pressure vessels shall be registered with the <strong>National</strong><br />
<strong>Board</strong>.<br />
6. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code.<br />
<strong>The</strong> following rule changes become effective in Washington State January 1, 2009.<br />
a. <strong>The</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard for inspection <strong>of</strong> non-nuclear boilers, unfired pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> safety devices is the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong><br />
Inspection Code (NBIC), 2011 edition Part 2, with addenda, excluding Section 6 Supplements2, 5, 6, <strong>and</strong> 7 which may<br />
be used as non m<strong>and</strong>atory guidelines. This code may be used on or after the date <strong>of</strong> issue <strong>and</strong> becomes m<strong>and</strong>atory<br />
twelve months after adoption by the board as specified in RCW 70.79.050(2).<br />
b. <strong>The</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard for inspection <strong>of</strong> historical steam boilers <strong>of</strong> riveted construction preserved, restored, or maintained for<br />
hobby or demonstration use, shall be Appendix “C” <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code [(as referenced in subsection<br />
(1) <strong>of</strong> this section)] (NBIC) 2004 edition with 2006 addenda.<br />
<strong>The</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard for repairs/alterations is:<br />
a. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (NBIC), 2011 edition Part 3, with addenda, excluding Section 6 Supplements 2, 5, 6,<br />
<strong>and</strong> 7 which may be used as nonm<strong>and</strong>atory guidelines.<br />
b. <strong>The</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard for repair <strong>of</strong> historical boilers or riveted construction preserved, restored, or maintained for hobby<br />
or demonstration use, shall be Appendix C <strong>of</strong> the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (NBIC) 2004 edition with 2006 addenda.<br />
7. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> registration required for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels. St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>of</strong> construction meeting the criteria for<br />
registration <strong>of</strong> boilers, pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> pressure retaining items (NB-264, Revision 2), provided boilers <strong>and</strong> unfired<br />
pressure vessels are registered with the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>.<br />
