rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />
Construction:<br />
1. CSA B51 (Current Edition) provides guidelines only, B52 (Current edition), <strong>and</strong> Nova Scotia regulations.<br />
2. ASME Code (2004 Edition, 2006 Addendum), Sections I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII (Divisions 1, 2, 3), IX, X, <strong>and</strong> code cases.<br />
3. ASME Code addenda <strong>and</strong> case interpretations accepted after review.<br />
4. ASME U-1 form is acceptable if CRN <strong>and</strong> drawing numbers are included.<br />
5. Manufacturers must register designs with the department <strong>and</strong> obtain authorization to fabricate power boilers, unfired<br />
pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> fittings for installation in the province.<br />
6. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (Current Edition, Current Addendum).<br />
7. <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>and</strong> pressure vessel designs must be registered with the department before objects are manufactured.<br />
Stamping:<br />
Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />
1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: R (accepted), VR.<br />
2. ASME Code: A, M, PP, S, U, U2, UM, UV, V.<br />
ASME stamps are accepted for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels manufactured outside <strong>of</strong> Canada.<br />
A CRN is required on boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />

All boilers <strong>and</strong> unfired pressure vessels containing gas, air or liquid, <strong>and</strong> refrigeration plants. <strong>The</strong> following are exempted:<br />
1. Steam or hot-water boilers used for domestic purposes or used solely for heating purposes (carrying a steam pressure<br />
not exceeding 15 psig or a water pressure not exceeding 30 psig).<br />
