<strong>and</strong> Buildings Division, enforces Wisconsin Administrative Code, SPS Chapter 341, <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessels.<br />

rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

Construction:<br />

1. ASME Code (2010 Edition), Sections I, II, IV, V, VIII (Divisions 1, 2), IX, X, <strong>and</strong> code cases.<br />

2. Code addenda <strong>and</strong> case interpretations may be accepted.<br />

3. ASME B31.1 (2010 Edition) <strong>and</strong> B31.5 (2006 Edition).<br />

4. ASME PVHO-1 (2007 Edition), PVHO-2 (2003 Edition).<br />

5. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> registration required for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels except CI “H” boilers <strong>and</strong> ”UM” vessels.<br />

6. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (2011 Edition). Parts 1, 2 <strong>and</strong> 3.<br />

7. API 510 (9 TH Edition, June 2006).<br />

8. ASME CSD-1 (2009 Edition).<br />

9. Special design or construction requires approval by the division.<br />

Stamping:<br />

Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />

1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: NR, R, VR.<br />

2. ASME Code: all.<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels stamped Wisconsin Special must be inspected <strong>and</strong> stamped by an inspector holding a Wisconsin commission.<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels shall be assigned a registration number which shall be affixed to the object by a certified inspector.<br />

ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

All boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels, except:<br />

1. Water heaters <strong>and</strong> hot-water storage tanks, provided water temperatures do not exceed 210°F.<br />

2. Vessels for containing water under pressure for domestic supply, including those having an air space for expansion.<br />

3. Pressure vessels used for the processing or storage <strong>of</strong> water at water temperatures not exceeding 210°F. (<strong>The</strong>se vessels<br />

may contain a steam or hot-water coil or heat exchanger, provided the steam is at or below a pressure <strong>of</strong> 15 psig<br />

<strong>and</strong> the hot water is at or below a pressure <strong>of</strong> 160 psig <strong>and</strong> a temperature <strong>of</strong> 250°F.)<br />
