<strong>The</strong> Nebraska <strong>Boiler</strong> Inspection Act does not apply to:<br />
1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s under federal jurisdiction <strong>and</strong> control.<br />
2. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>of</strong> railway locomotives subject to federal inspection.<br />
3. <strong>Boiler</strong>s operated <strong>and</strong> regularly inspected by railway companies operating in interstate commerce.<br />
4. <strong>Boiler</strong>s used exclusively for agricultural purposes.<br />
5. Steam-heating boilers in single family residences <strong>and</strong> apartment houses with four or fewer units, using a pressure <strong>of</strong> less<br />
than 15 psi <strong>and</strong> having a safety valve set at not higher than 15 psi.<br />
6. Heating boilers using water in single family residences <strong>and</strong> apartment houses with four or fewer units, using a pressure<br />
<strong>of</strong> less than 30 psi <strong>and</strong> having a safety valve set at not higher than 30 psi.<br />
7. Fire engine boilers brought into the state for temporary use in times <strong>of</strong> emergency.<br />
8. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>of</strong> a miniature model locomotive, boat, tractor, or stationary engine constructed <strong>and</strong> maintained as a hobby, not<br />
for commercial use, having an inside diameter <strong>of</strong> less than 10 inches <strong>and</strong> a grate area not in excess <strong>of</strong> 1-1/2 square feet,<br />
<strong>and</strong> properly equipped with a safety valve.<br />
9. Hot-water supply boilers if none <strong>of</strong> the following limitations is exceeded:<br />
a. 200,000 BTU per hour <strong>of</strong> input;<br />
b. 120 gallons <strong>of</strong> nominal capacity; or<br />
c. 210°F output.<br />
10. Unfired pressure vessels not exceeding:<br />
a. 5 cubic feet in volume; or<br />
b. A pressure <strong>of</strong> 250 psi.<br />
11. Unfired pressure vessels owned <strong>and</strong> maintained by a district or corporation organized under the provisions <strong>of</strong> Chapter<br />
70, Article 6.<br />
12. Unfired pressure vessels:<br />
a. Not exceeding a maximum allowable working pressure <strong>of</strong> 500 psi,<br />
b. That contain carbon dioxide, helium, oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydr<strong>of</strong>luorocarbon refrigerant, or any other nonflammable<br />
gas determined by the commissioner not to be a risk to the public,<br />
c. That are manufactured <strong>and</strong> repaired in accordance with applicable ASME st<strong>and</strong>ards, <strong>and</strong><br />
d. That are installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications.<br />

Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING.<br />
InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />
1. All jurisdictional boilers, except hobby boilers, steam farm traction engines, portable <strong>and</strong> stationary show engines, <strong>and</strong><br />
portable <strong>and</strong> stationary show boilers, shall receive an annual certificate inspection. Hobby boilers, steam farm traction<br />
engines, portable <strong>and</strong> stationary show engines, <strong>and</strong> stationary <strong>and</strong> portable show boilers shall be inspected externally<br />
biennially <strong>and</strong> internally quadrennially.<br />
2. Power boilers <strong>and</strong> high-pressure, high-temperature water boilers shall receive an internal inspection annually where<br />
construction permits <strong>and</strong> an external inspection while in operation, if possible; otherwise it shall be as complete an<br />
inspection as possible.<br />
3. Under certain conditions — with the chief boiler inspector’s approval — power boilers, waste-heat boilers, <strong>and</strong> highpressure,<br />
high-temperature water boilers having internal continuous water treatment may be subject to an annual<br />
external inspection while in operation <strong>and</strong> an internal inspection biennially.<br />
