3. <strong>Boiler</strong>s used solely for heating, <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels in a building occupied for residential purposes by not more than<br />

four families.<br />

ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr FIelD InSpeCtIOn<br />

Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING, except:<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s having a capacity <strong>of</strong> 3 cubic feet or less.<br />

2. Pressure vessels having a diameter less than 6 inches, a capacity less than 1-1/2 cubic feet, <strong>and</strong> pressure less than 15 psi.<br />

3. Pressure vessels with a pressure less than 15 psi.<br />

InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. Annual inspection <strong>of</strong> plant is required, with frequency <strong>of</strong> inspection scheduled according to type, size, <strong>and</strong> location <strong>of</strong><br />

each boiler <strong>and</strong> pressure vessel.<br />

2. No person shall use a boiler or pressure vessel unless it is inspected by a boiler inspector. Such person shall be in possession<br />

<strong>of</strong> a valid certificate signed by the chief inspector (certifying inspection <strong>and</strong> approved suitability for use).<br />

3. A boiler inspector as defined in the <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessel Safety Act is an inspector employed by the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Public Safety.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies are not accepted unless approved by the chief boiler inspector.<br />

prOVInCIal FeeS<br />

1. For annual registration <strong>of</strong> plant:<br />

Number <strong>of</strong> boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels multiplied by .................................................................................................$25.00 CAD<br />

2. For initial inspection (per hour or any part there<strong>of</strong>):<br />

4. For special inspection (per hour or any part there<strong>of</strong>):<br />

Fee for Certificate <strong>of</strong> Competency is $50.00 CAD. Contact the department for information concerning this certificate <strong>and</strong> for information<br />

on fees for Stationary Engineers Examinations <strong>and</strong> Licenses.<br />

mISCellaneOUS<br />

1. Every boiler inspector under the act shall:<br />

a. Have five years’ experience in a heating plant or power plant <strong>of</strong> more than 700 therm hour <strong>and</strong> hold a valid First<br />

Class Stationary Engineers License, issued under this act;<br />

b. Pass the boiler inspectors’ examination, as prescribed by the chief inspector, <strong>and</strong> have at least five years’ experience<br />

in designing, constructing, installing, or operating heating plants or power plants <strong>of</strong> more than 700 therm hour.<br />

Any c<strong>and</strong>idate having met one <strong>of</strong> the above requirements set forth in Section 20 may, upon application therefor <strong>and</strong> upon payment <strong>of</strong><br />

the prescribed fee, be issued a boiler inspector’s Certificate <strong>of</strong> Competency.<br />

2. Every boiler inspector’s Certificate <strong>of</strong> Competency shall expire on the thirty-first day <strong>of</strong> December <strong>of</strong> the year for which<br />

it was issued. It may, at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the chief inspector (upon application by the holder <strong>and</strong> payment <strong>of</strong> the prescribed<br />

fee), be renewed from year to year.<br />

3. A permit is required for new installations.<br />

4. Operators <strong>of</strong> boilers are required to be licensed for low-pressure heating plants having a rating <strong>of</strong> more than 50 therm<br />

hour <strong>and</strong> high-pressure plants having a rating <strong>of</strong> more than 20 therm hour.<br />
