All boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping systems, fittings, and plant and refrigeration equipment, except:
1. Boilers used in private residences or apartments of fewer than five units
2. Power boilers not exceeding 2 m2 .
3. Hot water boilers not exceeding 3 m2 .
4. Hot water boilers that have no valves or other obstruction to prevent circulation of fluid between the boiler and an
expansion tank that is fully vented to the atmosphere.
5. Pressure vessels not equipped with a heating element that is constructed for the storage of water at a temperature of
65ºC or less and a pressure of 1 720 kPa or less or has a diameter of 610 mm or less.
6. Pressure vessels used for hydraulic purposes having an operating temperature of less than 82ºC, if the primary design
considerations are mechanical in nature and stresses are derived from the functional requirements of the device rather
than fluid pressure.
7. Refrigeration plants with a capacity not exceeding 5 kW.
8. Cushion tanks with diameters of 610 mm or less constructed to operate at a working pressure not exceeding 207 kPa.
9. Piping systems not exceeding 103 kPa.
Miscellaneous
In addition to power boilers above 10 m2 in #6 the following require licensed operators:
1. Low pressure steam boilers exceeding 30 m 2 .
2. Hot water heating boilers exceeding 150 m 2 .
3. Refrigeration plants with refrigerant groups A1, A2 or B1, as defined in CSA B52, exceeding a total plant capacity of
200 kW prime mover nameplate rating.
4. Refrigeration plant with refrigerant groups A3, B2 or B3, as defined in CSA B52, exceeding a total plant capacity of
50 kW prime mover nameplate rating.

Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies are not accepted in lieu of inspections made by a BCSA Boiler
Safety Officer.
CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn
Certificate of Inspection, valid until next inspection, is issued by the BCSA.
