3. Portable unfired pressure vessels subject to regular inspection by State <strong>of</strong> Washington inspectors, <strong>and</strong> Interstate<br />
Commerce Commission/US Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation containers.<br />
4. Containers for liquefied petroleum gases regulated by Seattle Fire Code.<br />
5. Unfired pressure vessels in occupancy groups B, F, H, M, R, S, <strong>and</strong> U having a volume <strong>of</strong> 5 cubic feet or less operated at<br />
pressures not exceeding 250 psi.<br />
6. Unfired pressure vessels <strong>of</strong> any size (other than those containing steam) protected by approved pressure relief devices<br />
set to operate at a pressure not exceeding 15 psi.<br />
7. Electric boilers:<br />
a. Having a volume not exceeding 1-1/2 cubic feet;<br />
b. Having a maximum allowable working pressure <strong>of</strong> 100 psi;<br />
c. Constructed (after June 10, 1994) to the ASME <strong>Boiler</strong> <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessel Code, or listed or otherwise certified by a<br />
nationally recognized testing agency or recognized foreign testing laboratory.<br />
8. Water storage tanks with no air cushion <strong>and</strong> no energy or heat source.<br />
ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr FIelD InSpeCtIOn<br />
Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING.<br />
InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />
1. All newly installed boilers, pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> burners shall be inspected by a department inspector before being put<br />
into service.<br />
2. All boilers, except boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels in residences <strong>and</strong> in apartments <strong>of</strong> fewer than six dwelling units, shall<br />
have:<br />
a. An annual external inspection;<br />
b. An annual internal inspection where construction <strong>and</strong> operating conditions permit.<br />
3. Unfired pressure vessels shall have an inspection every two years (internal inspections are required at inspector’s<br />
discretion, where construction permits, or where specifically required by code). Ultrasonic thickness examination may<br />
substitute for internal inspection <strong>of</strong> unfired pressure vessels.<br />
Installation permits are required.<br />
InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />
Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies <strong>and</strong> holding a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission can be accepted in<br />
lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector.<br />
1. Reports <strong>of</strong> inspection must be filed within 30 days with the department on forms or in format approved by agency.<br />
2. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions.<br />
3. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> new business <strong>and</strong> discontinuance <strong>of</strong> insurance.<br />
4. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> repairs <strong>and</strong>/or alterations.<br />
5. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> accidents.<br />
CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />
Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection is issued by the department. For insured objects, the Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection fee shall be 50% <strong>of</strong> the city<br />
inspection fee (but in no case less than the minimum fee).<br />
