rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

Construction:<br />

1. ASME Code (2007 Edition), Sections I, II, V, <strong>and</strong> IX.<br />

2. Code addenda <strong>and</strong> case interpretations accepted.<br />

3. Owners must file a copy <strong>of</strong> Manufacturer’s Data Report with the division on ASME forms before installation.<br />

4. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (2004 Edition, 2006 Addendum).<br />

Stamping:<br />

Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />

1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: NB, R, VR.<br />

2. ASME Code: A, E, M, PP, S, V.<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s must be stamped with state serial number at the time <strong>of</strong> first inspection. <strong>The</strong> stamping is “W…..W”.<br />

ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

All steam boilers, except the following:<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s under the jurisdiction <strong>of</strong> the federal government.<br />

2. <strong>Boiler</strong>s carrying not more than 15 psi.<br />

3. Railroad locomotive boilers subject to inspection under federal laws.<br />

4. Portable boilers used for agricultural purposes.<br />

5. <strong>Boiler</strong>s on automobiles.<br />

6. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>of</strong> steam fire engines brought into the state for temporary use in cases <strong>of</strong> emergency.<br />

7. <strong>Boiler</strong>s in private residences used solely for residential purposes.<br />

8. Sectional boilers.<br />

9. Small portable boilers used in the oil <strong>and</strong> gas industry (around wells <strong>and</strong> tool houses).<br />

<strong>The</strong> term “small portable boiler” is interpreted by the division as one capable <strong>of</strong> being easily carried, weighing less than 200 pounds.<br />
