InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s:<br />

a. One annual internal inspection;<br />

b. One annual external inspection approximately six months following the internal inspection.<br />

2. Unfired pressure vessels, air conditioning <strong>and</strong> refrigeration systems: one annual inspection.<br />

Internal <strong>and</strong> external inspections shall be made within 12 months from the date <strong>of</strong> the last internal inspection.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are accepted<br />

in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector.<br />

2. Initial inspection <strong>and</strong> inspection <strong>of</strong> all replacement installations requiring the chief inspector’s approval <strong>of</strong> plans <strong>and</strong><br />

specifications for boilers, unfired pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> air conditioning or refrigerating systems shall be made by a department<br />

inspector.<br />

3. Air conditioning systems <strong>and</strong> refrigerating systems are not exempt from city inspections unless complete system, exclusive<br />

<strong>of</strong> prime movers, is insured <strong>and</strong> inspected by insurance inspectors.<br />

4. Reports <strong>of</strong> internal inspection must be filed with the department within 30 days <strong>of</strong> last annual inspection.<br />

5. Reports <strong>of</strong> external inspections are not required unless there are code violations or dangerous conditions.<br />

6. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified immediately, using <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms, <strong>of</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous<br />

conditions.<br />

7. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified within 30 days, using <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms, <strong>of</strong> new business <strong>and</strong> discontinuance <strong>of</strong> insurance.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

1. Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection, valid for 12 months from expiration date <strong>of</strong> the previous certificate, is issued by the department<br />

upon payment <strong>of</strong> a $10.00 fee per object by the owner/user <strong>of</strong> the boiler, pressure vessel or air conditioning/refrigeration<br />

system. Fee shall be collected by the insurance carrier at the expiration date <strong>and</strong> paid to the department. Fee for<br />

hot-water heaters is $5.00. (<strong>The</strong>se fees may vary.)<br />

2. An inspection certificate for a boiler inspected by an insurance company becomes invalid when the unit ceases to be<br />

insured by a duly authorized insurance company.<br />

mUnICIpal FeeS<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s:<br />

a. Up to <strong>and</strong> including 20 hp ...................................................................................................................................................... $20.00<br />

b. Up to 21 <strong>and</strong> including 100 hp .............................................................................................................................................. $25.00<br />

c. More than 100 hp .................................................................................................................................................................... $30.00<br />

2. Unfired pressure vessels:<br />

a. Vessels which cannot be inspected internally .................................................................................................................... $20.00<br />

b. Vessels which can be inspected internally (through 200 gallons) ..................................................................................$25.00<br />

c. More than 200 gallons (for each additional 100 gallons) ................................................................................................ $30.00<br />

Insurance companies are required to collect inspection fees.<br />

mISCellaneOUS<br />

1. Inspections may be made only by those inspectors holding a New Orleans <strong>Boiler</strong>s Inspection Commission.<br />

2. A reciprocal New Orleans commission will be granted to inspectors holding a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission upon application<br />

to the chief mechanical inspector. Insurance inspectors must meet the conditions <strong>of</strong> the New Orleans Building Code.<br />

3. A permit is required to sell, install, or repair boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />

4. Operators <strong>of</strong> boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels are required to be licensed. An operator is required to be in attendance during<br />

boiler operation.<br />
