rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />
Construction:<br />
1. ASME Code (2004 Edition), Sections I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII (Divisions 1, 2, 3), IX, X, XII.<br />
2. ASME B31.1 (2004 Edition).<br />
3. ASME CSD-1 (2002 Edition) with exception <strong>of</strong> Part CF.<br />
4. Manufacturers must file a copy <strong>of</strong> Manufacturer’s Data Report with the department on ASME forms before installation.<br />
5. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (2001 Edition, 2002/03 Addendum).<br />
6. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> registration required for boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />
7. Special design or construction requires approval by the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Pressure Vessels.<br />
8. Any power boiler <strong>of</strong> longitudinal lap seam construction installed, registered, <strong>and</strong> operated in the state prior to January 1,<br />
1951, shall not be operated in the state at steam pressures exceeding 15 psi (does not apply to miniature boilers).<br />
Stamping:<br />
Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />
1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: R, VR.<br />
2. ASME Code: A, E, H, HLW, HV, M, PP, RP, S, U, U2, U3, UM, UV, V.<br />
3. <strong>The</strong> State <strong>of</strong> Maine registration number preceded by the letters “ME”, assigned by the department, must be stamped on<br />
power boilers in numerals <strong>and</strong> letters not less than 3/8-inch in height. Other jurisdictional objects must be tagged with<br />
an “H” number for low-pressure objects <strong>and</strong> “PV” number for pressure vessels.<br />
ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />
All boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels, except the following:<br />
1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels under federal control.<br />
2. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels used for agricultural purposes only.<br />
3. <strong>Boiler</strong>s used solely for propelling motor road vehicles.<br />
4. <strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>of</strong> steam fire engines brought into the state for temporary use in times <strong>of</strong> emergency to check conflagrations.<br />
