3. Steam boilers used exclusively for heating purposes carrying a pressure <strong>of</strong> not more than 15 psig <strong>and</strong> which are located<br />

in private residences or in apartment houses <strong>of</strong> fewer than six families.<br />

4. Hot-water heating boilers with a pressure <strong>of</strong> not more than 30 psi located in private residences or apartment houses <strong>of</strong><br />

fewer than six families.<br />

5. Approved pressure vessels (hot-water heaters, hot-water storage tanks, hot-water supply boilers, <strong>and</strong> hot-water heating<br />

boilers), with approved safety devices including pressure relief valve, with nominal water-containing capacity <strong>of</strong><br />

120 gallons or less having a heat input <strong>of</strong> 200,000 BTU per hour or less, used for hot-water supply at a pressure <strong>of</strong><br />

160 psi or less, <strong>and</strong> at temperatures <strong>of</strong> 210°F or less provided, however, that such pressure vessels are not installed in<br />

schools, childcare centers, public <strong>and</strong> private hospitals, nursing <strong>and</strong> boarding homes, churches, public buildings owned or<br />

leased <strong>and</strong> maintained by the state or any political subdivision there<strong>of</strong>, <strong>and</strong> assembly halls.<br />

6. Unfired pressure vessels containing only water under pressure for domestic supply purposes (including those containing<br />

air, the compression <strong>of</strong> which serves only as a cushion or airlift pumping system), when located in private residences or<br />

in apartment houses <strong>of</strong> fewer than six families, or in public water systems as defined in RCW 70.119.020.<br />

7. Unfired pressure vessels containing liquified petroleum gases.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. All insurance companies shall notify the chief inspector within 30 days <strong>of</strong> all boiler <strong>and</strong>/or unfired pressure vessel risks<br />

written, canceled, not renewed, or suspended because <strong>of</strong> unsafe conditions. Special inspectors shall perform all inservice<br />

inspections <strong>of</strong> boilers <strong>and</strong> unfired pressure vessels insured by their employer. Inspections made by inspectors employed<br />

by insurance companies <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections by a department<br />

inspector.<br />

2. Reports <strong>of</strong> internal <strong>and</strong> external inspections must be filed with the department on approved forms within 30 days after<br />

inspection.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

1. Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection, valid for not more than 14 months for power boilers <strong>and</strong> for not more than 26 months for lowpressure<br />

boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels, will be issued by the department upon payment <strong>of</strong> a fee to the department.<br />

2. No Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection issued for an insured boiler or pressure vessel shall be valid after the boiler or pressure vessel<br />

ceases to be insured by a duly authorized insurance company.<br />
