5. Steam-heating boilers, hot-water heating boilers, <strong>and</strong> hot-water supply boilers, except those owned by municipalities or<br />

located in school buildings, or those used as process boilers.<br />

6. Pressure vessels used for the transportation <strong>and</strong> storage <strong>of</strong> compressed or liquified gases when constructed in compliance<br />

with specifications <strong>of</strong> the US Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation.<br />

7. Pressure vessels installed on the right-<strong>of</strong>-way <strong>of</strong> railroads <strong>and</strong> used directly in the operation <strong>of</strong> trains.<br />

8. Pressure vessels located on vehicles operating under the rules <strong>of</strong> other state authorities <strong>and</strong> used for carrying passengers<br />

or freight.<br />

9. Pressure vessels located in private residences <strong>and</strong> apartment buildings with fewer than six apartments.<br />

10. Pressure vessels having an internal or external operating pressure not exceeding 15 psi.<br />

11. Vessels containing water under pressure, including those containing air, the compression <strong>of</strong> which serves only as a cushion,<br />

when none <strong>of</strong> the following limitations is exceeded:<br />

a. A design pressure <strong>of</strong> 300 psi;<br />

b. A design temperature <strong>of</strong> 210°F.<br />

12. Pressure vessels containing water heated by steam or any other direct or indirect means when none <strong>of</strong> the following<br />

limitations is exceeded:<br />

a. A heat input <strong>of</strong> 200,000 BTU per hour;<br />

b. A water temperature <strong>of</strong> 200°F;<br />

c. A nominal water-containing capacity <strong>of</strong> 120 gallons.<br />

13. Pressure vessels not exceeding:<br />

a. 5 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 250 psig;<br />

b. 1-1/2 cubic feet in volume <strong>and</strong> 600 psig;<br />

c. An inside diameter <strong>of</strong> 6 inches with no limitation on pressure.<br />

14. Pressure vessels used as an integral part <strong>of</strong> a circuit breaker or transformer.<br />

InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. High-pressure boilers:<br />

a. One annual internal certificate inspection;<br />

b. One annual external inspection, in operation, approximately six months from the certificate inspection.<br />

2. Miniature boilers:<br />

a. One annual certificate inspection;<br />

b. One biennial internal inspection.<br />

3. Cast-iron boilers: one annual certificate inspection while unit is in operation.<br />

4. Low-pressure steel steam heating boilers (owned by municipalities or located in school buildings) or process boilers:<br />

one annual certificate inspection, which shall be an internal inspection every third year, with an external or internal<br />

inspection at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the inspector on the two intervening years.<br />

5. Low-pressure steel hot-water supply boilers (owned by municipalities or located in school buildings) or process boilers:<br />

one annual certificate inspection, which shall be an internal inspection where possible, every third year, with an external<br />

or internal inspection at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the inspector during the two intervening years.<br />

6. Low-pressure steel hot-water heating boilers (owned by municipalities or located in school buildings) or process boilers:<br />

one annual certificate inspection, which shall be an internal inspection every third year, with an external inspection<br />

during the two intervening years.<br />

7. Low-pressure process boilers (owned by municipalities or located in school buildings) or process boilers: one annual<br />

certificate inspection, which shall be an internal inspection every third year, with an external inspection during the two<br />

intervening years.<br />
