ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr COnStrUCtIOn anD StampInG<br />

All boilers, pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> steam <strong>and</strong> refrigeration plants, except the following:<br />

1. <strong>Boiler</strong>s or pressure vessels subject to inspection under the Canada Shipping Act.<br />

2. <strong>Boiler</strong>s or pressure vessels subject to inspection by the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> Transport Commissioners for Canada.<br />

3. <strong>Boiler</strong>s with a capacity <strong>of</strong> 60 kW or less (other than miniature boiler).<br />

4. <strong>Boiler</strong>s connected to a hot-water heating system where water is heated <strong>and</strong> circulated with no intervening valves between<br />

boiler <strong>and</strong> expansion tank (fully vented to the atmosphere).<br />

5. Pressure system used solely for heating purposes in a private dwelling.<br />

6. Pressure vessels other than for steam, operated with the relief valve set at 103 kilopascals or less.<br />

7. Pressure vessels with internal diameters <strong>of</strong> 24 inches (610 mm) or less <strong>and</strong> containing both liquid <strong>and</strong> air used exclusively<br />

for hydraulic purposes at atmospheric temperatures (or used to serve as a cushion in a water pumping or heating system).<br />

8. Pressure vessels having an internal diameter <strong>of</strong> 24 inches (610 mm) or less used for storage <strong>of</strong> hot water for domestic<br />

purposes.<br />

9. Pressure vessels used for storage <strong>of</strong> water or oil when temperature <strong>of</strong> water or oil is less than 66°C.<br />

10. A refrigerating system that has motive rating <strong>of</strong> 10.5 kW or less.<br />

ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr FIelD InSpeCtIOn<br />

Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING.<br />

InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. Steam <strong>and</strong> high temperature hot water boilers: initial <strong>and</strong> annual internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection.<br />

2. Hot-water boilers: initial <strong>and</strong> inspection, biennial internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection.<br />

3. Hot-water tanks: initial inspection, internal inspection at first 24-month interval <strong>and</strong> every 48 months thereafter. External<br />

inspection every 24 months.<br />

4. Indirectly heated hot-water tanks: initial inspection, internal inspection at first 36-month interval <strong>and</strong> every 72 months<br />

thereafter. External inspection every 36 months.<br />

5. Pressure vessels: initial <strong>and</strong> biennial internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection.<br />

6. Air receivers less than 36 inches in diameter: triennial internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection.<br />

7. Group A1 refrigeration pressure vessels <strong>and</strong> LPG <strong>and</strong> other non-corrosive storage vessels initial <strong>and</strong> external inspection<br />

every 48 months.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies are not accepted in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by a department inspector.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection is valid for period issued, unless canceled, withdrawn, or suspended by the chief inspector for just cause.<br />

prOVInCIal FeeS<br />

Fees for inspection <strong>of</strong> construction, extensive repairs, secondh<strong>and</strong> boilers, <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels when sold or exchanged for<br />

subsequent use, <strong>and</strong> annual operating fees are fixed by the department based on the total output in kilowatts or on the size <strong>of</strong><br />

unfired pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> on the capacity <strong>of</strong> new steam plants, refrigerating plants, <strong>and</strong> piping installations.<br />
