3. Portable boilers used for agricultural purposes only.<br />
4. <strong>Boiler</strong>s built for a pressure <strong>of</strong> 15 psig or less, for noncommercial use.<br />
5. All potable water boilers <strong>and</strong> hot-water heaters, except the provisions <strong>of</strong> the section shall not be applicable to commercial<br />
potable water heaters <strong>of</strong> less than 50-gallon capacity, installed in commercial buildings.<br />

InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />
Power boilers <strong>and</strong> high-pressure or high-temperature water boilers:<br />
1. An annual external inspection followed by an internal inspection approximately six months after each external inspection.<br />
<strong>The</strong> interval between inspections may be extended for a period not to exceed 24 months on a stationary boiler<br />
provided:<br />
a. Continuous water treatment under competent <strong>and</strong> experienced supervision has been in effect since the last internal<br />
inspection for the purpose <strong>of</strong> controlling <strong>and</strong> limiting corrosion <strong>and</strong> deposits;<br />
b. Conditions are such that in the judgment <strong>of</strong> the assistant secretary, the inspection period may be extended.<br />
2. Internal inspections may be extended up to 60 months on boilers that are adjunct to or part <strong>of</strong> a continuous process.<br />
Fee is $200.00.<br />
Low-pressure boilers:<br />
A certificate inspection will be conducted biennially:<br />
1. Steam or vapor boilers: An external inspection <strong>and</strong> internal inspection biennially where construction permits;<br />
2. Hot-water heating <strong>and</strong> hot-water supply boilers: An external certificate inspection biennially, <strong>and</strong> – where construction<br />
permits — an internal inspection every six years based on date <strong>of</strong> construction;<br />
3. Potable water boilers/hot-water heaters: An external certificate inspection biennially.<br />
InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />
1. Inspections made by inspectors employed by insurance companies <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are accepted<br />
in lieu <strong>of</strong> inspections made by deputy boiler inspectors.<br />
2. Reports <strong>of</strong> inspections must be submitted to the boiler inspection section within 30 days on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms.<br />
3. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions or <strong>of</strong> accidents to insured<br />
boilers on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms.<br />
4. <strong>The</strong> department must be notified <strong>of</strong> new business or discontinuance <strong>of</strong> insurance.<br />
CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />
1. Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection, valid for not more than 14 months, is issued by the state fire marshal upon payment <strong>of</strong> a fee <strong>of</strong><br />
$20.00. Certificate valid for not more than 26 months: $40.00.<br />
2. All invoicing will be done by the boiler inspection section <strong>and</strong> mailed to the location.<br />
3. No Inspection Certificate issued for an insured boiler shall be valid after the boiler for which it was issued ceases to be<br />
insured by a duly authorized insurance company.<br />
