4. Containers for liquified petroleum gases, bulk oxygen, <strong>and</strong> medical gas regulated by the fire code or by the New Mexico<br />

Liquified Petroleum Gas Act <strong>of</strong> 1987.<br />

5. Unfired pressure vessels having a volume <strong>of</strong> 5 cubic feet or less <strong>and</strong> operated at pressures not exceeding 250 psi.<br />

6. Pressure vessels in refrigeration systems regulated by Chapter 15 <strong>of</strong> the Uniform Mechanical Code (New Mexico).<br />

7. Pressure tanks used in conjunction with coaxial cables, telephone cables, power cables, <strong>and</strong> other similar humidity control<br />

systems.<br />

8. Any boiler subjected to regular inspection by federal inspectors or licensed by federal authorities.<br />

9. Hydronic panel heating systems as described in Chapter 23 <strong>of</strong> latest approved edition <strong>of</strong> the Uniform Mechanical Code.<br />

10. Public utilities, rural electric cooperatives, mine processing (administration facilities are not exempt), refinery processing,<br />

gas processing (administration facilities are not exempt), <strong>and</strong> lumber industries (sawmill only).<br />

ObJeCtS SUbJeCt tO rUleS FOr FIelD InSpeCtIOn<br />

Same as OBJECTS SUBJECT TO RULES FOR CONSTRUCTION AND STAMPING.<br />

InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. Power boilers, high-temperature water boilers, miniature boilers, high-pressure steam generators:<br />

a. An annual external inspection;<br />

b. An annual internal inspection, where construction permits.<br />

A certificate <strong>of</strong> inspection may be issued with an external inspection. However, an internal inspection must be made within six<br />

months <strong>of</strong> the external inspection.<br />

2. Low-pressure steam boilers:<br />

a. A biennial external inspection;<br />

b. An internal inspection if need indicates.<br />

3. Direct-fire steam jacketed kettles:<br />

a. A biennial external inspection;<br />

b. An internal inspection, if need indicates.<br />

4. Low-pressure, hot-water heating boilers, <strong>and</strong> hot-water supply boilers:<br />

a. A biennial external inspection;<br />

b. An internal inspection, if need indicates.<br />

5. Hydrostatic test: performed at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the inspector <strong>and</strong> witnessed by the inspector.<br />

6. Any boiler repair by welding, other than <strong>of</strong> routine nature (that in any way affects the pressure-containing capability),<br />

requires a commissioned inspector’s approval. <strong>The</strong> repair organization shall furnish a written report (<strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> R-1<br />

form).<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. <strong>The</strong> bureau must be notified within 30 days, on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> or alternative forms acceptable to the bureau, <strong>of</strong> all<br />

boiler risks involving policies written, canceled, or not renewed. In the case <strong>of</strong> nonrenewal because <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions,<br />

the inspection agency shall list in writing the defects found.<br />

2. Insurance companies shall furnish the bureau a copy <strong>of</strong> all internal <strong>and</strong> external inspection reports on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong><br />

or API-510 forms. All reports shall be mailed within 60 days <strong>of</strong> inspection.<br />

3. Any inspection agency, authorized by the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>, licensed to sell boiler or pressure vessel insurance in New<br />

Mexico, <strong>and</strong> insuring a boiler located in the state is required to inspect.<br />

4. Insurance company inspectors must hold a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission <strong>and</strong> be commissioned by the state.<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

A final mechanical inspection is issued by the inspector upon successful inspection.<br />
