InSpeCtIOnS reQUIreD<br />

1. Power boilers:<br />

a. Annual internal inspection;<br />

b. Annual external inspection under pressure.<br />

2. Low-pressure heating <strong>and</strong> hot-water supply boilers:<br />

a. 2 year internal inspection;<br />

b. 2 year external inspection.<br />

3. Unfired pressure vessels subject to corrosion:<br />

a. 3 year internal inspection;<br />

b. 3 year external inspection.<br />

InSUranCe InSpeCtIOn reQUIrementS<br />

1. Inspections made by inspectors with a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> commission <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are required.<br />

2. Reports <strong>of</strong> internal inspections must be filed with the department on ASME forms within 30 days.<br />

3. Reports <strong>of</strong> external inspections are not required unless dangerous conditions are present.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong> commissioner must be notified within 30 days <strong>of</strong> suspension <strong>of</strong> insurance on account <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions, new business,<br />

<strong>and</strong> discontinuance <strong>of</strong> insurance.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> commissioner must be notified immediately <strong>of</strong> refusal to insure because <strong>of</strong> dangerous conditions.<br />

6. Requirements for companies operating unfired pressure vessels:<br />

a. Inspections made by inspectors with a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> commission <strong>and</strong> commissioned by the department are<br />

required.<br />

b. Reports <strong>of</strong> internal <strong>and</strong> external inspections must be filed with the department on <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> forms within 30<br />

days;<br />

CertIFICate OF InSpeCtIOn<br />

1. A Certificate <strong>of</strong> Inspection is valid for 12 months for high-pressure power boilers, 24 months for low-pressure boilers, <strong>and</strong><br />

36 months for unfired pressure vessels.<br />

2. Insurance company inspectors must notify the division within 30 days <strong>of</strong> insurance being cancelled, not renewed, or<br />

refused on new boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />

mISCellaneOUS<br />

Any accident, incident, or explosion <strong>of</strong> a boiler or pressure vessel involving personal injury must be immediately reported by<br />

the owner, user, or inspector to the division at 800.640.2106.<br />
