all operational aspects <strong>of</strong> the Safety Act.<br />

Territory statute: Statutes <strong>of</strong> Territory <strong>of</strong> Nunavut, Technical St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> Safety Act.<br />

At the creation <strong>of</strong> Nunavut, on April 1, 1999, all Northwest Territories acts <strong>and</strong> regulations were adopted until Nunavut<br />

could enact its own. A new safety act, entitled Technical St<strong>and</strong>ards <strong>and</strong> Safety Act, has been passed <strong>and</strong> will be proclaimed<br />

following revision <strong>of</strong> the regulations.<br />

Construction:<br />

1. CSA B51-M1 (1991 Edition), B52-M1 (1992 Edition).<br />

2. ASME Code (1992 Edition), Sections I, II, III (Divisions 1, 2), IV, V, VI, VII, VIII (Divisions 1, 2), IX, X, XI.<br />

3. ANSI B31.1 (1989 Edition), B31.3 (1990 Edition), B31.4 (1989 Edition), B31.5 (1989 Edition), B16.5 (1988 Edition), B61.1<br />

(1989 Edition).<br />

4. Manufacturers must file a copy <strong>of</strong> the ASME Data Report form or a data report in a format acceptable to the chief inspector<br />

for each vessel before installation.<br />

5. Z184-M (1986 Edition), B139-M91 (1991 Edition), Z276-M (1981 Edition), Z305.1-M (1984 Edition), Z305 3-M87 (1987<br />

6. Manufacturers must submit, in duplicate, designs <strong>of</strong> boilers, pressure vessels, <strong>and</strong> fittings for approval <strong>and</strong> registration<br />

before commencing fabrication when they are to operate in Nunavut.<br />

7. <strong>National</strong> Building Code (1990 Edition – Canada).<br />

8. Shop inspections must be carried out in the United States by a <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Commission holder, <strong>and</strong> in Canada by an<br />

inspector approved by the chief inspector <strong>of</strong> the province or territory where he is employed.<br />

9. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> Inspection Code (Current Edition, Current Addendum).<br />

Stamping:<br />

Where appropriate, the following <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong> stamps or ASME Code symbol stamps are required:<br />

1. <strong>National</strong> <strong>Board</strong>: R (accepted).<br />

2. ASME Code: A, E, H, HLW, HV, M, S, U, U2, UM, UV, V.<br />

<strong>Boiler</strong>s <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels built to CSA-ASME st<strong>and</strong>ards must be identified with applicable CRN for Nunavut.<br />

All steam boilers <strong>and</strong> pressure vessels.<br />
