KZN Province further expanded on theinitiative by adopting the concept of District Industrial Hubs (DIH). This entails thateach District needs to focus its energy and resources towards its comparative/competitive advantages (key economic sectors). A series of interviews conductedby DEDT assisted in identifying Primary and Secondary sectors in each District.Umzinyathi’s primary and secondary sectors were identified as the mining andagricultural (cattle farming value chain) respectively. DEDT has appointedConsultants who will be deployed to the District Municipalities in order to furtherresearch on this findings and determine the viability of the identified sectors incatalyzing local economic growth and development.Draft 2013/14 IDP Review Page 135Prepared by Umzinyathi District Municipality22 March 2013
