However, many other facilitiescomplete the community fabric. The table below shows a list of suchfacilities and gives an indication of the controlling authority or institutions. Itis important to note the role that non-governmental institutions play inmeeting the needs for community services and facilities.Other social services and community facilities 2Controlling authorityAdmin Centre 34 11 2 20 67District Court 5 5Government 27 1 1 29Municipal 1 11 12Other 1 1Pension pay point 1 1Traditional 1 1Traditional Court 1 17 18Cemetery 9 15 13 1 10 48Formal Cemetery 1 12 1 14Informal Burial Site 8 15 1 10 34Crèche 78 13 16 107Combined 40 11 3 54Daycare 19 1 10 30Other 1 1 1 3Pre-school 18 2 20Church 281 281Church 256 256Mosque 2 2Open/Natural 17 17Other 2 2Temple 4 4Community hall 3 2 68 1 40 5 119Community Hall 3 2 68 1 40 5 119Postal service 73 73Cluster Box 65 65Post Office 8 8Controlling authorityPrisons 4 4Prison 4 4Sport facility 35 105 43 8 24 215Basketball Court 1 1Cricket Field 1 1Equestrian Field 1 1Golf Course 1 2 3Gymnasium 1 1Hockey Field 1 1Netball Court 2 1 2 5Other 1 1 3 5Park 1 1 2Rugby field 1 1 2 4School field 76 1 77Show Ground 1 1Soccer and RugbyField1 1Soccer Field 1 1Spin Gym 1 1Sports field 34 15 32 3 5 86Swimming Pool 5 1 1 2 9Tennis Court 3 4 1 4 12Grand Total 291 52 289 3 107 24 73 40 35 914The list is only indicative of the main functions that facilities fulfill. Thereare however, a number of facilities that serve multi-purposes. Forexample, schools provide education, have sporting facilities, and providecommunity halls. In the same way, traditional courts serve as pension paypoints when required.When the distribution of these facilities is spatially assessed, it is clear thatin the past they have tended to respond to settlement patterns rather thanserving as the focal point for settlement. In this sense the provision ofthese facilities have contributed towards entrenching the low densitydispersed settlement patterns in the municipal area.Draft 2013/14 IDP Review Page 183Prepared by Umzinyathi District Municipality22 March 2013
