SALES TAX ON LIQUID COOKING OIL
I am directed to refer to your letter No.CBR/MIS-86/01 dated 18.7.2001 on the
above subject and to say that SRO 579(I)/2000, dated 21.7.2000 was rescinded vide SRO.
403(I)/2001 dated 18.6.2001 and S.No.6 of the Sixth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act, 1990
was amended vide Finance Ordinance, 2001. Under the new S. No.6 of the Sixth
Schedule, supplies of edible oil (whether in small bulk packing) are exempt from sales
tax while imports of edible oil are not exempt.
