<strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong> <strong>Instructions</strong>, 2009<br />

Who are exempt from registering?<br />

All those manufacturers, whose gross annual supply of taxable goods is less than the<br />

―<strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong> Registration Threshold‖ as announced in the budget, are exempt from<br />

registering. However, if there annual supply of goods is less than in the <strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong><br />

Registration Threshold, they shall have to enroll themselves with the relevant<br />

Collectorate of sales tax. They shall be paying a turnover tax on six monthly basis as<br />

announced in the budget.<br />

Who has to register for <strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong> ?<br />

The following categories of business persons shall have to register themselves as a<br />

registered person at the relevant collectorate of <strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong>:-<br />

-- All those manufacturers whose gross supplies of taxable goods are in<br />

excess of the <strong>Sales</strong> <strong>Tax</strong> Registration Threshold.<br />

-- The above manufacturers include those manufacturing for exports as<br />

exports are taxable supplies @ zero %.<br />

-- All the commercial exporters who want to claim the refund of tax as<br />

result of the zero-rated export of goods.<br />

When must I register ?<br />

As soon as you calculate that your gross supplies for a year is likely to exceed the<br />

threshold, you must apply for registration. For this purpose, a year means any continuous<br />

twelve months.<br />

How do I register?<br />

Please do one of the following:-<br />

-- telephone the local collectorate headquarters and ask for the registration<br />

pack.<br />

-- Visit the local taxpayer Information Center and tell the officer what you<br />

desire to know.<br />

You would be asks your name, your address for correspondence, your type of business,<br />

and some other basic questions on phone. Within a few working days you would receive<br />

the registration pack. The registration pack contains the following documents:-<br />

-- Application for Registration along with instructions to fill in the form<br />

(Specimen printed at the end of this publication).<br />

-- Filling in your Return-cum-Challan From.<br />

-- Keeping Records & Accounts.<br />

What if I am already registered?<br />

You are not liable to register again if you are already registered. However, your<br />

Collectorate would send you in some weeks the registration pack containing the above<br />

documents requesting you to fill in the new form so that you are allocated the new<br />

<strong>Tax</strong>payer Identification Number (TIN).
