PRESS RELEASE
The Central Board of Revenue has been striving to modernize its processes with a view
to ensure maximum facilitation of taxpayer. The latest developments on this account are
enabling the taxpayers file applications for new sales tax registrations through web. The
facility is being extended with effect from 27-04-2006.
In the past there have been numerous complaints regarding delays in the registration
process. The applications for fresh registrations remained pending for very long periods
of time. As a result, the CBR introduced the concept of centralized registrations by
establishing Central Registration Office (CRO) at CBR in the budgetary measures for the
year 2004-2005, so that the process could be monitored closely. This step helped reduce
the time required for registration. But the process still required original filing of
applications in the Collectorates i.e. Local Registration offices (LROs). Such applications
could not be transmitted to CBR expeditiously and the prospective taxpayer suffered on
this account.
Now, they can send their applications for registration, in the prescribed form ST-1,
directly to the Central Registration Officer (CRO) at CBR at the email address
‗staxregistration@cbr.gov.pk‘. This will eliminate the step of filing the application with
the local registration office and subsequent transfer to CRO. A person liable to
registration can visit the CBR‘s website and click the link relating to ‗Efiling‘ and then
can proceed to download the application for new registration (ST-1 form). The form can
be filled in and the same can be attached with the email to be sent to the address given
above. The detailed instructions for filling in the form and sending the same to CRO are
also available on the same link on the website.
PRESS RELEASE
The objectives of the Central Board of Revenue include providing quality service to the
taxpayers by the application of modern techniques and providing taxpayer‘s assistance.
One step further has been taken in this direction and the system has been devised to
enable the taxpayers to know the status of their sales tax refund claims by visiting the
CBR‘s website. Beginning from 27 th April 2006, the taxpayers can access this
information.
The CBR has made arrangements that all the taxpayers will be able to access the
information in respect of their sales tax refund claims, including the amounts of refund
