dential background (birthplace and family residence in the capital and major cities asagainst rural areas), the very nature of the secondary school attended (state or otherwisepublic institutions as against those run by various churches), cultural values as well aslinguistic practices and competences observable in the clusters of pupils under scrutiny,their expectable strategies for further studies and higher educational options (like vocationalorientations, studies in the capital, in province or abroad). All these variables mustbe indeed combined—as they operate actually together in socio-historical reality—withthe ones related to ethnicity and religion proper, in order to clarify the additional or ‘pure’impact of the latter.
