Mercurius de Mercurio (Lt). Mercury from
Mercury (Secret Symbols, p. 48). This is one of
many names for the Lapis Philosophorum, and
has the same meaning.
sperrna masculus mundi (Lt). Masculine seed of
the world. The force of all mighty works of
creation. see 64,97, 55.
7"M air; atmosphere; space, vacuum. Eveer, the
atmospheric air or wind, is the same as the Vayu
of the Hindus. In the yoga classification of the
elements, Vayu means literally "the vibrating."
To it is attributed the property of locomotion, or
movement from place to place, and the subtle
principle manifest in the sense of touch. see 471.
fiery, lustrous. The proper name
equivalent to the Greek Photinos, "lustrous,
bright" derived from phos, light. Uri was the son
of Hur, who was the son of Caleb by Ephrath.
Uri's son was Bezaleel (1 Chronicles 2:20).
Caleb means "dog" and symbolizes the self-
conscious mental activity. Ephrath is a
designation for subconscious activity. Uri is the
Life-breath manifested in Malkuth, where it is
the body-building power following and
executing patterns received from above. see 153,

Title of Beth and the 12'h Path of Wisdom. There
is a basic identity between the 1 lth (Aleph) and
12'~ (Beth)-both originate in Kether. Bawhir is
closely related to Aur (207), Light. Beth is used
in Hebrew like the English "in" and "into." Its
very sound is a concentration of breath and all
the ideas associated with Beth and Key 1 imply
penetration.
km magic; to engrave. God engraves the
patterns of light on all the "signatures" of nature
[Fama]. see 257, 525.
3 castle, fort; royal residence. In Mishnaic
or Talmudic, temple, sanctuary. Similar in
meaning to Beth as a house or abode. The place
where the highest cosmic development can
dwell.

conscious awareness is the capacity which
distinguishes human beings from all other
creatures on earth. see 2 18.
;Ma food. The Life-power as light nourishes
all creatures.
;Rt37 Deborah. a bee; Old Testament name. In
Judges 5: 12: "Awake, awake, Deborah: awake,
awake, utter a song, arise Barak [302, lighting,
brilliancy) and lead thy captivity captive, thou
son of Abinoam [PftV'X = 109, father, or
possessor, of grace]." see 206, from the root
I. Deborah, meaning 'a bee' which is the specific
symbol of Sekhet, whose name means a bee. She
is the goddess of intoxication and sexual passion,
hence her connection with honey and with sakh,
or sakti, 'to inflame or inspire' and with
'fermented drink'. The bee, which is the copula
between the male and female elements in
flowers, was a type of the soul which is
represented in Egyptian ideographs as the Ba or
Aba-it, which guides the souls of the dead en
route for the Sekhet-Aahru, the Fields ot
Heavenly Mead or money. Ba, the astral or
double is also a word meaning 'honey' and Shu
and Tefnut are said to dispense honey. The
goddess Sekhet as Sakti is a lunar force, and,
together with her attributes of love and
sweetness, a fit symbol of the honeymoon, which
indicates the sexual nature of the force in

11. Sekhet: The fierce lioness-headed goddess of
the South. Her ferocious qualities typifL sexual
heat and the fire of fermented drink. Her
counterpart in the North is the gentle Bast, or
Pasht, the lunar cat-headed deity of the cool of
night, as Sekhet is solar and of the furnace-heat
of day. From the name Sekhet was derived the
Indian word shakti, meaning power, with special
reference to the magical power of creation as
