Iscohedron (attributed to Water ) has 20
triangular faces (20 x 3 = 60). Since Akasha and
Water are both represented by 60, or 5 times the
number of Fire, we may regard Akasha and
Water as being in some sense a fivefold
manifestation of FIRE.

"differential and human order, completeness of
character". And the "actualizing of maturity."

interchangeable with the final form of the letter
Mem, but after mankind left the Garden of Eden,
he mistook temporary shelter for the final letter
of the abode of perfection (Mem). Because of his
error, the arm of the tent peg was bent. [Codex

I. Note this letter is similar to final Mem. It is a
modification of the circle, and is symbolic of a
serpent swallowing its own tail. Note the serpent
girdle on Key 1, The Magician. Note that Teth
and Lamed are also symbolic of a serpent and the
serpent-power. In Samekh it is a serpent
swallowing its own tail and also symbolizes the
completion of a cycle of manifestation. Since
Samekh follows Teth and Lamed, it corresponds
to the end of a series of manifestations.
11. "This character as consonant, belongs to the
sibilant sound, and is applied as onomatopoeia to
depicting all sibilant noises ... This character is,
in Hebrew, the image of the bow whose cord
hisses in the hands of man. As grammatical sign,
it is that of circular movement in that which is
related to the circumferential limit of any

This has a special reference to the testing of
metals by fire. Translated a tried (stone) in Isaiah
28:16: "Therefore thus says the Lord God,
behold I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a
tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure
foundation: he that believes shall not make
haste." With different pointing: 1. watch-tower,
2. trial, examination proof; 3. testing,
examination; 4. to inquire. The higher self

This is not the same word translated "temptation
or trial" in the special title of the path of Samekh
associated with Sagittarius and Key 14. see Book
of Tokens (Samekh).

Chokmah Nesethrah [397] the secret wisdom
(qabalah). The mystical trial by fire has to do
with initiation into the Qabalah. It is by "grace",
the "Grace of God" that the "metal" is tested-Key

sublimity, glory. Trial by fire makes
visible "the Glory of the Heavenly Sun," or "the
Gold of thy Beauty." [Book of Tokens, Mem].
With different pointing: rising, swelling (as the
waves in water, or hills on land); highness,
excellence, majesty, grandeur, glory, exaltation.
These meanings are related to the mountain
symbolism in Key 14. Because there is danger
that attainment may lead to personal pride, this
word signifies also the pride which goes before a
fall, and this points toward the kind of test
whereby, as the comment of the path of Samekh
says, "The Lord God test the devout." Until the
dross of egotism is purged out, the "Metal" will
not meet the trial of friction (rubbing) upon the
touchstone of daily contact with others and
environmental conditions.
