I. "NT'I, And-he-did-ken ... Moses continues to
make the being of beings, the universal creator,
speak in the future by turning the expression of
his will into the past by means of the convertible
sign. The verb which is used by Moses on
this occasion, signifies not only to see, but to
ken, by directing voluntarily the visual ray upon
an object. The root 51 or 'l composed of the sign
of movement proper united to the convertible, or
to that of manifestation, develops every idea of a
stroke, ray, or trace, of anything whatever, being
directed in a straight line. It is joined to the root
5N or 'N, expressing the goal, the place, the
object toward which the will inclines, there
where it is fixed, and forms with it the compound
'Hl, m, or Rim, that is to say, the vision, the
act of seeing and the very object of this action."
'considered carehl1y'-(that is the meaning of the
Hebrew word which our English version
translates by 'saw ') 'the intelligence' he had
willed into being. He saw that it was 'good'-
suited to carry out his purposes and powerful for
the task." [The Unknown God, p.301
Briah. Creation. creature, world, cosmos.
The World of Creation attributed to the 1st Heh
in ?l?8' and to the 3* Sephirah Binah.
I. Briah is the world of creation and associated
with the Element Water. It is an invisible and all
pervading sea of perfect power, wisdom and
intelligence. From this invisible sea of pure spirit
all things come into manifestation.
In the world of Briah the indivisible One works
through the archangelic forces. The archangelic
beings are the creative forces which specialize
Atziluthic, abstract will-ideas into specific
creative imagery.
11. Briah is the Creative world of the mental
plane. The cosmic mental energy is associated
with water because it flows in streams, has
currents, vibrates like waves, has tides, and is
like a mirror or reflector.
smell, odor, scent, savor. The sense of
smell is attributed of Zain, corresponding to
Gemini, ruled by Mercury. It is the separative
mental activity whereby we discriminate
between good and evil. Intellect is the
discriminating function of the Ego, which
corresponds to smell. Mythologically, Mercury
is associated with the Egyptian Thoth, pictured
with A Jackal's Head in allusion to that animal's
keen sense of smell. see 7, 67, 108 and Genesis
8:21.
3 perspicuity, clearness. Indicating the
definiteness which is the outcome of astute
intellectual discrimination.
clearness, perspicuity. With different
spelling). "Chokmah is called the "splendor of
unity", spelled Tl'l Mm. The Zohar or
Book of Splendor is the archetypal text of
Qabalah, along with the Sepher Yefzirah.
"Who is among you that fears the Lord, that
obeys the voice of his servant, that walks in
darkness, and hath no light? Let him trust in the
name of the Lord, and stay upon his God." see
