three letters, Aleph, Daleth, and Mem final.
VI. F.J. Mayers: Let us return again for a
moment to the name Adam and note its
hieroglyphic construction. H [Aleph] as we
know denotes anything primal-the first cause;
potentiality - God . '1 [Daleth] is the sign of
multiplication, abundance; final [Mem] is the
sign of unlimited plurality. The name Adam
therefore means the one becoming many. But as
a spiritual being, Adam was only One. As we
said in speaking of the group-souls, a spiritual
conception, a species or genus cannot, as such,
multiply. It can only multiply in the number of
individuals comprised in it, and this
multiplication can only take place on the
physical plane ... We have now, the explanation
of Adam being both singular and plural, him
and them; and both male and female. In his
singular aspect he was the human principle, the
soul or essence of humanity. As a spiritual unity
Adam was sexless, but sex was a necessity of
multiplication in the physical realm-and in the
physical realm alone ... [in Genesis 2:7] What we
are told of now is still a spiritual act, the
formation of a spiritual being in the spiritual
realm, but eternal to the essential being of God.
The Adam still has no physical or material form
of existence. He was formed not of the dust of
the earth or of any earthy substance, but from the
Adamah [50]-The spiritual elements of
humanity, of the qualities and attributes that
constitute man a kingdom of being in himself or
a link between the sub-human and divinity. [The

VII. "'Adam' is Aleph immersed in blood, but
this blood is not "all absorbing"; it can become
'cosmically fruitful', which means that the human
body can come to radiate cosmic energy. The
schema for man (Adam) is Aleph (1 ), Dallet (4),
Mem (40 or 600). The fact that Mem final can be
40 (i.e. resistance) and can leap to 600 (i.e.
cosmic fertility) indicates the vast range of
possibilities in man. The true vocation of
mankind is this transfiguration of 40 into 600.
The text goes on to say that Adam can be
considered as a living shadow, or image, of the
Elohim: given the potential of greater power of
resistance than any other being, he can become
the receptacle of the greatest intensity of life on
this planet. (In a certain respect, we can see this
illustrated today wherever men are being trained
to withstand the strain of living in rockets,
beyond gravitation, on the floor of the oceans, in
the Antarctic ice-fields, or to test their physical
and psychological resistance in all kinds of

VIII. "We know that Adam is a schema for the
human being. It indicates that Aleph, the
pulsating creativeness of life-death, is within
him, struggling so as not to drown in the
absorption of Dam, 4.40. The earth, as Adamah,
claims that blood as belonging to it. It says,
mythically: I, Adamah [;wYH], am your mother
and spouse; you, my husbandman, are kin to me:
you are earth.
If we accept this proposition and live
accordingly, the Aleph in us suffers death by
suffocation, just as it is buried in Eretz where
nature continuously repeats its prototypes, each
according to its species.
But the Hebraic myth states that YHWH-Elohim
has breathed in man the Sheen (300) which is the
organic movement of the whole universe (Gen.
2, 7). This develops into the well-known dispute
between YHWH and the earth as to whom the
blood belongs.
YHWH's point contended for in argument is
founded on a basic postulate of Qabala: the unity
of energy and of its contradictory aspects as
spirit and matter, good and evil, high and low,
etc. They coalesce in the synthetic formula
Yod-Hay- Waw-Hay where their two lives

Egyptian Atem, the Mother Goddess of Time and
Periodicity, hence Adam signifies 'man' (i.e.
humanity), as the continuity of existence
