Most respondents were not able to provide an example of any established business<br />

applications that were currently in use in their organization. The majority of the<br />

respondents indicated that they have not used any of these applications stated in the<br />

questions (Question 5: Table 5, Appendix E).<br />

Out of all the technologies that are used for business applications, VoIP was to be used<br />

by various organisations. It has not yet been fully utilised but the government is<br />

introducing this technology in all government ministries and departments. The<br />

department of IT within the Finance Department is managing government networks and<br />

as one respondent confirmed, it is still under development and its full use would be<br />

realised once the e-Government project is complete.<br />

“Of all the technologies stated here, I would say VoIP will be one of the applications<br />

that all government departments and ministries will be using. This is because the<br />

infrastructure of the current e-Government project has the fibre optic cable that<br />

connects all government buildings meaning there will be much greater bandwidth. This<br />

will mean that using VoIP as government telephone system will greatly reduce the cost<br />

of telephone communication.” (Rp17q5).<br />

Most respondents indicated that they have access to VoIP, for example using Skype for<br />

private communication and hardly had it used for work. Push-email as explained above<br />

is still rarely used only by those senior officers who have Smartphone mobile devices<br />

have access to Push-email services. All respondents indicated that the other business<br />

applications did not exist. Most of the respondents indicated that these are new<br />

applications that would require training in order to be able to use them in government<br />

services. As one respondent indicated “All these services do not exist yet within our<br />

department. I am taking note of it we might be introducing it later once we have the<br />
