<strong>the</strong> case with all <strong>the</strong> Imperial build<strong>in</strong>gs. This <strong>in</strong>dulgence renders<br />

an abode at Vienna very agreeable.<br />

On <strong>the</strong> 28th I visited <strong>the</strong> arsenal, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> armoury of which <strong>the</strong><br />

small arms, <strong>in</strong> very considerable numbers, are prettily <strong>and</strong> fanci-<br />

fully arranged.<br />

I went afterwards to view <strong>the</strong><br />

very extensive collection<br />

of fane pictures, upwards of thirteen hundred, many of<br />

<strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> productions of <strong>the</strong> most celebrated masters, at Belvidcre;<br />

but was prevented, by want of time, from <strong>in</strong>spect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m with a<br />

due attemion. Hav<strong>in</strong>g made an arrangement<br />

with Colonel Hol-<br />

loway <strong>and</strong> Major Hope to quit Vienna on <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g morn<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

I took up my residence at <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>n, to be prepared for an early de-<br />

parture.<br />

The short stay which I made at Vienna prevents me from at-<br />

tempt<strong>in</strong>g a more circumstantial account of this citv <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> environs,<br />

which are well worthy <strong>the</strong> norice of travellers. The <strong>in</strong>habi-<br />

tants are extremely hospitable j<br />

at moderate prices.<br />

ON <strong>the</strong> 29th of June we quitted Vienna at half past five <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

morn<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong> at eight o'clock arrived at Burkersdqf, whence,<br />

without loss of time, we proceeded to <strong>the</strong> second stage, Sichart-<br />

skirchen, which we reached at half past ten o'clock. Our route<br />

was over a very delightful country, abound<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> woods, slop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

hills, <strong>and</strong> well cultivated vallies planted with corn. Our next sta-<br />

ges conducted us to Pcrachl<strong>in</strong>g, St. Pollen, <strong>and</strong> Molk,<br />

at <strong>the</strong> lat-<br />

ter of which places <strong>the</strong>re is a f<strong>in</strong>e benedict<strong>in</strong>e convent, most opulently<br />

endowed. We arrived <strong>the</strong>re about six <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> even<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>and</strong>
