THE follow<strong>in</strong>g Tables conta<strong>in</strong> a correct statement<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Thermometer (Fahrenheit''s), <strong>the</strong> prevail<strong>in</strong>g W<strong>in</strong>ds,<br />

Barometer, &c. as observed by me, three times daily, <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Turkey</strong> t Asiciy <strong>Syria</strong>, through <strong>the</strong> Desert, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Egypt</strong>,<br />

from June 1799 to March 1802.<br />

In order to give an idea of <strong>the</strong> Force of <strong>the</strong> W<strong>in</strong>d,<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Quantity of Ra<strong>in</strong> fallen, dur<strong>in</strong>g each day,<br />

I have<br />

had recourse to numbers ; as will be seen marked <strong>in</strong> a Co-<br />

lumn of <strong>the</strong> Tables, at <strong>the</strong> period <strong>the</strong>y were first noted<br />

down.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> expiration of a few months, I was obliged to<br />

lay aside <strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong> Barometer, Eudiometer, <strong>and</strong> Plu-<br />

viometer, which I had been accustomed occasionally to<br />

employ, it be<strong>in</strong>g impossible to make use of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>in</strong>struments<br />

when travell<strong>in</strong>g.
