Members of urban communities, community activists and people interested in urban issues and<br />

post-socialist cities, practitioners active in civic movements, representatives from the third sector,<br />

city officials interested in urban activism.<br />

Members of civic movements, urban planning officials and politicians.<br />

The prospective participants will need to show high interest in urban issues, have some experience<br />

in grassroots’ level activities and be willing to share knowledge about the practices in their<br />

countries. The participants will be asked to describe briefly their experience and motivation in a<br />

separate motivation letter.<br />

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:<br />

The objectives of the workshop are to facilitate learning and knowledge sharing between European<br />

urban activists; to promote grassroots’ initiatives and citizen activism in shaping urban<br />

environments; to find solutions for problems typical to post-socialist cities; to introduce Estonian<br />

community organisations and activists to foreigners.<br />

The workshop will be organised in close cooperation with community organisations in Tallinn and<br />

will be open for members of neighbourhood groups from Tartu, Narva, Viljandi, Rakvere and other<br />

Estonian towns.<br />

Residency of urban activists:<br />

1) workshops on urban development and planning, community activism and critical urbanism<br />

2) sharing experiences and methods on citizen activism and urban interventions<br />

3) networking between citizen activists from Europe<br />

4) study visits to different neighbourhood communities in Tallinn (Kalamaja, Pirita, Vanalinn, etc)<br />

5) participating in the annual conference of the International Urban Research and Activism<br />

(INURA) in Tallinn<br />

Better understanding about the field of urban activism, higher awareness of different neighbourhood<br />

and community initiatives, better contacts between different activists and people interested in these<br />

issues, more knowledge about post-socialist cities and Eastern Europe. The workshop will inspire<br />

those who are trying to shape or protect their living environment in meaningful ways.<br />
