Healthy Wooden Toys<br />

Target Group + Translation:<br />

The main target groups of the workshop are; young and senior adults who have fewer opportunities<br />

and are exposed to discrimination because of several reasons such as sexual, economical, ethnic and<br />

social but want a second chance to become integrated into the societies they live in.<br />

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:<br />

Children, especially when they are between 0-3 years old, recognize the world by using their mouth<br />

and it makes the choice of toy material really important. Wood, which doesn't contain chemical<br />

materials and bacteria, is natural and harmless. Thus, it becomes the healthiest toy material for<br />

vulnerable children. Moreover, there are several advantages of healthy wooden toys, such as;<br />

- They do not need to be disinfected and their chemical structure do not change,<br />

- They are recyclable and are not harmful to the environment,<br />

- They are cheap and economical, can be repaired easily,<br />

- They can be used by different generations,<br />

- They do not need energy supply like batteries.<br />

The project aims to provide the necessary skills to the target group in order to help them to acquire<br />

the basic skills of producing healthy wooden toys. The programme includes:<br />

Day 1: A presentation of wooden toys, description of the workshop and expected results, wooden<br />

materials to be used in production, general aspects of design, introduction of atelier which will be<br />

used during the workshop.<br />

Day 2: Describing wood cutting saws, wood cutting applications, describing wood chisel and<br />

gouge, wood chisel and gouge applications.<br />

Day 3: Describing hand-saw and band-saw, hand-saw and band-saw applications, describing fretsaw<br />

and fret-saw applications.<br />

Day 4: Describing desktop decoupage and hand decoupage machines, desktop decoupage and hand<br />

decoupage applications.<br />

Day 5: Determination of toys to be produced, beginning of cutting/shearing process,<br />

cutting/shearing process.<br />

Day 6: Cutting/shearing process.<br />

Day 7: Describing surface layer processes, describing types of varnishes and paints.<br />

Day 8 and Day 9: Working with healthy paints and varnishes.<br />

Day 10: Evaluation of the products by a Commission, getting feedbacks from the participants<br />

through questionnaires, exhibition of the products.<br />
