digital cameras. Expected number of participants: 15 (12 + 3)
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Topic of the workshop: Raw Material: Light | Landscape Photography Concept: The core concept
of the workshop is that a landscape necessarily reflects a peculiar relation between a community
and its natural environment. Photography is a key to visually explore that relation, in that it
provides the opportunity to approach the understanding of the liaison between man and nature, in a
specific context. To this regard, the town of Cortona, in the heart of Tuscany, offers an
extraordinary setting for dwelling in this relation, which is often harmonic, though not always.
Here, photographers of different origins and backgrounds will undertake the challenge of
deciphering a landscape dense with history, as well as personal and family stories. Such a challenge
will ultimately contribute to a better understanding of the photographers’ own ways of looking at
the world, and at themselves. Main activities of the Workshop: lectures on landscape photography
by professional experts; hands-on ICT lectures on operating the digital darkroom and setting up a
photo blog; practice: street photography; night photography; indoor and outdoor photography;
project concept development, one-to-one sessions with experienced photographers; full day
excursion. Expected outputs: All participants will develop their own personal project, reflecting
their visual approach to the landscape of Cortona. All materials will be published on the photo blog
and widely disseminated. Practical arrangements: most probably all participants will reach Cortona
by air, landing either in Florence or Perugia. They will be transferred to a high quality hosting
facility in Cortona, where they will be provided with full board service for 7 nights. Lectures will
take place in a specific classroom, equipped with computers, relevant software and a projector.
