Target Group:
Adult learner from any EU Lifelong learning programme Member states with focus on learners who
are disadvantaged from a geographical and/or social point of view. The workshop is offered to
citizens, who have: - an interest in workshop topic, creativity, practical action, personal
development and self expression through arts, - wish to develop their innovative and creative skills;
- have a desire to learn new methods and techniques in production of Christmas decorations and
related items. No professional skills are requested. Participants have to be able to have simple
discussions in English. Expected number of participants: 17
Main activities Programme + Programme translation
The aim of this workshop is to share the knowledge of traditional and national Christmas festivities
in Latvia and get acquainted to other European countries traditions; to compare the Christmas
celebration process, decorations and items related to Christmas. The objective is to prepare and
develop Christmas decors, items and share the joy of creativity. The workshop consists from
theoretical part and 6 practical workshops: Theoretical part: - Lecture on Latvian national and
traditional Christmas festivities; - Participants presentations (home work) on their country of origin
national and traditional Christmas festivities - features of Christmas celebration process,
decorations, ornaments, gifts, dishes, background, origins, etc.; - Study of Latvian symbols,
patterns, elements. Practical workshops: - Christmas tree decorations in wool-roll technique; -
Father Christmas’s felt boots preparation; - Wax candle making according to ancient method; -
Cotton apron decoration in decupague technique; - Ginger biscuits baking; - Christmas cards and
space decors preparation (Paper); - Environment objects with ancient Latvian patterns; - Exhibition
of workshops outcomes; Feedback, cultural activities and Farwell evening. In the workshop art is
used as a tool for developing the personal potential of creativity. Working in international
environment and guided by professional teachers people from different geographical and
professional areas can learn from each other the ways of thinking and working.
