Survival Polish - the workshop on the Polish language and culture for
beginners

- 16 participants from different UE countires
- who want to learn Polish or have just started to learn, who want to learn the Polish mentality and
customs, are interested in getting to know the country which after toppling the communism in 1980
has been developing rapidly , who want to use international workshop to broaden their knowledge
of cultural differences and who strive for better understanding of their own cultue by means of
getting to know the distinctive features of anothe country's culture.
Main activities Programme + Programme translation:
Duration: 6 days, 8hrs daily, 48hrs in total.
Every days schedule: before noon: language classes; after noon: practice-oriented classes.
The curriculum of language classes:
basic pronunciation alphabet learning, the skill of simple talks in everyday communication
situations: official and unofficial greeting, shopping, placing an order in a restaurant, public offices/
banks scenes, making appointments, travelling, telephone conversations, telling about oneself, one's
country, interests.
The curriculum of practice-oriented classes:
participants, guided by teachers, will practice the skills acquired in the before-noon classes in
natural language environment: shopping, booking a table at a restaurant, ordering a taxi via a
telephone, visiting a post office, a railway station, buying tickets for an exhibition, asking for
directions.
Teaching materials: Meritum's proprietary textbook "Survival Polish" together with additional
audio-visual materials.
A summary of each day of the workshop will be held in the form of a joint dinner, each time a
different meals of typical Polish cuisine. The workshop's participants will have a chance to get to
know the Polish cuisine, as well as exchange their experience and observations.
The farewell dinner is to be accompanied by a karaoke event - the workshop's participants will be
able to sing Polish songs (assisted by their teachers) as well as songs popular in their respective
countries.
The workshop's participants will acquire the basic command of the Polish language allowing them
to use in real life their new skills concerning: establishing contacts, hold simple conversations,
