Creating Your Own Accessories Made of OLTU Stone and Exploring<br />

Traditional Turkish Cuisine?<br />

Target Group + Translation:<br />

This workshop is directed to adults –both women and men- from European countries who wish to<br />

learn to make Turkish handicrafts and learn about different cultures through cooking. Priority will<br />

be given to candidates who have special interest in manual skills and cookery, howeverno particular<br />

artistic skills are needed.<br />

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:<br />

The participants will get a basic knowledge of how to carve Oltu stone, a precious, regional stone<br />

only found in the city of Erzurum. They will create accessories with Oltu and discover how to cook<br />

traditional Turkish food at the same time.<br />

1. Welcome meeting, getting to know each other and general information about the programme<br />

(Opening Ceremony).<br />

2. Introducing necessary equipments for carving/proccessing Oltu stone via slideshows on the<br />

projection in the classroom.<br />

3. Observing the craftsman/expert of Oltu stone and learning basic skills in carving and<br />

proccessing it.<br />

4. Producing Oltu products.<br />

5. Getting necessary and brief knowledge about traditional Turkish cuisine.<br />

6. Practising in cooking some special and easy Turkish dishes.<br />

7. Evaluations, discussions and getting the reflections.<br />

8. Exhibiting participants’ products while serving traditional Turkish dessert cooked by the<br />

participants.<br />

9. Study visits to the town called Oltu where this precious stone is mined, and to the city center,<br />

museums, historical places around it.<br />

10. Closing ceremony. Giving the participants their certificates .<br />
