Today many people are experiencing the change of "traditional" employment biographies
characterised by holding a job in a particular firm over a significant period of time to frequent job
changes. However, the trend towards flexible labour markets across Europe involves also greater
job insecurity, resulting in higher unemployment risks which individuals are facing throughout their
"working lifespan". Starting point for our workshop is the recognition of unemployment and
precarious employments as a personal crisis. This stance on the issue should allow the single person
to open up, to talk about it and to describe how they deal with their crisis which will guide us
through the workshop. Hence, the focus of the workshop is not to qualify or (re-)integrate people
immediately into the labour market, but rather the idea that a crisis presents also opportunities to
discover. Central element of the workshop is to listen to the single person and to give them the
chance to speak out. Communication and moving are the essences to put this idea into action.
Encouraging Listen - Exchanging - Sharing - Moving. A person that can name and communicate
one's own needs will also be able to choose between different choices and select the "right"
opportunities. We want to support people through the workshop in making their choices and
realising that they might not need another application training, but want to enlarge their horizon and
to look for other offers around them which fit their needs. We invite interested people who want to
share their experience and like to communicate from across Europe, and who are in a precarious
employment - i.e. temporary employments, working poor, self-employed out of necessity - who are
unemployed or who have overcome a professional or job related crisis.
