The workshop aims to improve knowledge of instruments like e-democracy and democratic
participation for the planning of policies at the local level that have as their objective the
development of participatory democracy. The program is divided into two sessions: a theoretical
introduction, which will facilitate the basic tools to better understand the process wich, from the
World Social Forum in Porto Alegre in 1992, led to the definition of concepts such as participatory
democracy , "glocalization" and e-democracy. The practical session involves the creation of social
forums on the web, in order to put into practice the theoretical knowledge learned. Participants will
be divided into groups that reflect their geographical origin and each of them will create a social
forum at region-country level, in order to integrate it in the Social Forum of the ACT-IN.
Participants will improve their knowledge on e-democracy and participatory democracy, with a
particular focus on tools such as social forums and blogs. Participants will be 24 (20 non-Italian and
Italian 4)from 5 European countries: during the practice session will be created 6 different Social
Forums(one for each region-country), and will be divided regionally and each working group will
be responsible for the development of its integration in the same forum as well as in the Social
Forum of the ACT-IN. .
