European citizens with minor or no expertise in wine tasting and great interest in tasting of different<br />

varieties of wines and learning the procedure for the preparation of wine (from the vineyard<br />

cultivation until the packaging of the wine in the bottle)<br />

Main activities Programme + Programme translation:<br />

The main activities of the workshop combine wine tasting lessons (theoretical and practical) along<br />

with lectures. Participants are going to be given the chance to be informed not only about the<br />

historical background of Cyprus but also its long-lasting relationship with wine. In addition,<br />

presentations are going to be given on matters such as Cyprus agriculture and vine cultivation in the<br />

past and present as well as current policies within the EU related to the cultivation of vines and<br />

wine production. Participants are going to have the chance be presented with an overview of the<br />

best practices of other European countries related to agricultural policies and to a further extent vine<br />

cultivation and wine production. What is more, participants will have the chance to experience an<br />

on the spot presentation of the methods of wine making in a specific region of Cyprus. The<br />

programme of the workshop also includes: a study visit at the vineyards of the area. Presentation of<br />

the main characteristics of the local varieties of Cypriot vines, information about the soil and<br />

climate conditions at the cultivation area. Study visits in specific wineries in the area that are<br />

designed to provide educational facilities. Presentation of the wine making procedure, “from the<br />

grape crop to the bottle”. In detail explanation of the modern wine making process according to the<br />

characteristics of each variety. Wine tasting lessons. The wine tasting lessons will take place at the<br />

wineries that have the relevant infrastructure and will be given by the house “sommeliers”.<br />

Theoretical and practical study of recognizing the quality grade of various wines. Presentation of<br />

the main characteristics of different wines, combination of two or more varieties in the same bottle.<br />

Combining food with the appropriate wine. A detailed programme will be published on the website<br />

of the organiser ( www.iapacyprus.eu ).<br />
